Blake Griffin Ejected for Receiving 2nd Technical Foul: Latest Details, Reaction
Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin was ejected in the second quarter Thursday of his team's 118-104 road loss to the Phoenix Suns after receiving his second technical, per NBA on ESPN:
Griffin had 11 points, four assists and three rebounds in 16 minutes before he was shown the door to the locker room. He's now tied with Paul George for the most technicals in the league with four.
Bleacher Report shared video footage of the infraction, which appeared to happen when Griffin complained about a no-call after scoring inside:
The Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch summed up the impact Griffin's ejection had on his team, which trailed the Suns by nine points at halftime:
The Clippers didn't take kindly to seeing their star leave the game, per their official Twitter account:
Head coach Doc Rivers was not happy with the call, either. His frustration over losing a player who averages 28 points and 10 rebounds per game carried into the locker room at halftime, according to TNT sideline reporter Rachel Nichols:
The two technicals that led to his third career ejection gave Griffin a total of 69 in his five-plus years in the league.
It's never good to lose an emotional leader such as Griffin, but it hurts even more when a team loses its leading scorer and second-leading rebounder.
Griffin is on pace for 36 technical fouls this season. He probably won't keep that up, but he is just 12 away from receiving a one-game suspension, per NBA league rules. He reached the 16-technical-foul mark in 2013-14 and was suspended without pay for the final game of the season.
