Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams, Shane Vereen Post-Week 9 Fantasy Advice

The New York Giants strengthened their grip on first place in the lowly NFC East with a 32-18 win over the last-place Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 9.

They didn’t post seven touchdowns Sunday, like they did against the New Orleans Saints a week earlier, and they were limited to just 327 yards of offense—including a weak output from their slew of running backs.

Head coach Tom Coughlin's ongoing platoon featuring running backs Rashad Jennings, Andre Williams and Shane Vereen combined for 16 fantasy points and likely left owners disappointed as the playoff race heats up.

Jennings, the starter, is owned in only 77.1 percent of ESPN.com leagues, and for good reason. He has posted double-digit fantasy points just twice this season and hasn't done so since Week 4. 

He averaged 3.7 yards per carry on 13 tries Sunday, with a long run of nine yards, while extending his touchdown drought to five games. With the fantasy playoff race in full force, Jennings has given owners plenty of reasons to avoid him.

Williams scored more fantasy points than his season average Sunday, but that’s hardly something to celebrate.

He’s tallied 22 fantasy points collectively this year, a figure owners would expect from an RB1 commodity in a single game alone. If you take away a long run of 11 yards, Williams would’ve finished with 19 yards on six carries.

He’s owned in 13.7 percent of leagues, but even that seems like a high number.

Shane Vereen salvaged owners with a four-yard touchdown catch early in the second quarter, but that's all he was worth.

Vereen was targeted the most among Giants running backs Sunday, with four passes coming his way, but his effectiveness on the ground was nonexistent. If you take away his long run of eight yards, Vereen would’ve finished with just 1.2 yards per carry on five attempts.

The Giants again showed that they're committed to splitting duties at the running back spot. And given the unit's continued struggles—it was the sixth-worst in the league in rushing offense entering Week 9—fantasy owners should look elsewhere for viable options.
