Breeders' Cup 2015: Post Time, Post Positions and Classic TV Coverage Info
The Classic is the headline event of the two days of Breeders' Cup racing, and while the 11 other races often give it quite a bit of competition, this year's race is accompanied by the rarest kind of anticipation.
That's due to the presence of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, who is competing with eight other horses in this 1 ¼-mile race at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky.
This is expected to be American Pharoah's last performance on the race track. He is expected to be retired to a leisurely life at stud by his owners after the race, according to Dana O'Neil of ESPN.
The race can be seen on NBC at 5:35 p.m. (ET).
American Pharoah proved his versatility and talent as he captured the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes earlier this year. In becoming the first horse since Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978 to capture all three races, American Pharoah proved he could run with the lead or from off the pace, and he also won on a fast track as well as an off-track.
| 1 | Tonalist | Christophe Clement | John Velazquez | 13-2 |
| 2 | Keen Ice | Dale L. Romans | Irad Ortiz Jr. | 12-1 |
| 3 | Frosted | Kiaran McLaughlin | Joel Rosario | 16-1 |
| 4 | American Pharoah | Bob Baffert | Victor Espinoza | 5-4 |
| 5 | Gleneagles | Aidan O'Brien | Ryan Moore | 16-1 |
| 6 | Effinex | James Jerkens | Mike Smith | 50-1 |
| 7 | Smooth Roller | Victor Garcia | Tyler Baze | 16-1 |
| 8 | Hard Aces | John Sadler | Joseph Talamo | 50-1 |
| 9 | Honor Code | Claude McGaughey III | Javier Castellano | 6-1 |
| 10 | Beholder | Richard Mandella | Gary Stevens | SCRATCH |
That's why American Pharoah is a 5-4 favorite in the race, according to Odds Shark. But don't expect an easy race for jockey Victor Espinoza, because the Classic field is loaded with talented horses.
While second-choice Beholder has been scratched, Honor Code, Tonalist and Keen Ice are among the horses that should challenge American Pharoah.
Honor Code will be ridden by Javier Castellano and is trained by Hall of Famer Shug McGauhey. Honor Code is coming off a third-place finish in the Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park earlier this month, but he has won three races this year and earned more than $1.5 million.
Honor Code was considered one of the early favorites for the 2014 Triple Crown races, but an injury took him off that path. However, he made a full recovery and appears to be near the top of his game.

Tonalist figures to be a strong contender in the Classic because he comes into the race in excellent form. He won the Jockey Club Gold Cup earlier this month at Belmont Park, and that marked the second consecutive year he won that event. Tonalist has been on the board in all five of his races this year, and that includes two victories.
He has earned more than $3 million in his career.
Keen Ice got the best of American Pharoah in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga in August. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. piloted Keen Ice to a sharp victory as he was running fastest of all down the stretch, and that's where he caught and passed the Triple Crown champion.
Trainer Dale Romans had Keen Ice ready for an eye-opening performance in upstate New York, and there's no reason to think he won't do just as good a job here.
While that performance was clearly the best of Keen Ice's career, that has been Keen Ice's only victory this year. He has earned more than $1.4 million this year.
