Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Michy Batshuayi and Aaron Leya Iseka Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenOct 28, 2015

Arsenal are reportedly preparing transfer moves for Belgian brothers Michy Batshuayi and Aaron Leya Iseka, two young strikers who are being tipped for big futures.

Batshuayi, the older of the two, has been making waves since moving to Olympique Marseille, and according to Davide Mordacchini of Calciomercato (h/t Metro's Will Giles), Gunners manager Arsene Wenger wants to bring him to the Emirates as soon as possible.

The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 10 Ligue 1 starts this season, per WhoScored.com, but Marseille haven't been able to take advantage of his strong form and are struggling.

Batshuayi's hot start also hasn't resulted in a bigger role with Belgium's national team, and if that persists, it's not hard to see why the youngster could choose to move to the Premier League, where he would have more exposure.

Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe believes he has all the tools Wenger looks for in a forward:

"

A shade under 6’, the Belgian is close to the ideal height for a striker of his ilk. He’s built lean with muscle, has an elastic quality about him and boasts remarkable core agility.

His somatotype fits his playing style; there’s very little wasted movement. He’s strong and fast, and he's quick and deceptive with his feet. Thanks to a rare combination of physical attributes, he’s the sort of player many would be quick to label “complete”—at least in a biological sense.

"

The Belgian is fast, strong and confident in front of goal, a combination that has worked wonders for him so far in Ligue 1. Similar to Anthony Martial of Manchester United, he has the technical ability to be very effective in open space, and he's also adept at winning aerial battles and playing with his back to goal.

Batshuayi is far from the finished product, and his age still often shows in his play. He can be very selfish in front of goal, which is often a good trait for strikers but can lead to chances gone to waste.

Compared to Martial, he has already shown more during his Ligue 1 career as far as production goes, and it's likely he'll be the next great prospect to move from France to England, unless someone can make Lyon a strong offer for Alexandre Lacazette.

His younger brother Leya Iseka is perhaps even more talented, but as of right now, he's still mainly plying his trade with Anderlecht's Under-21 squad.

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Daily Star's Rhys Turrell), he's also on Wenger's radar with an eye on a January move.

Leya Iseka was one of the standout performers during the UEFA Youth League, where he became the joint-top scorer, along with Chelsea's Dominic Solanke, per the UEFA's official website.

The 17-year-old has already made his senior debut, but the bulk of his minutes last year came with Anderlecht's youth teams.

Like his older brother, Leya Iseka is a quick, strong forward with incredible positional awareness and a nose for goals. He was integral to Anderlecht's shock run in the UEFA Youth League last season, striking against the likes of Barcelona and FC Porto.

Turrell's report leaves out one important detail, however, and it's this detail that makes a January move extremely unlikely. The teenager recently tore his ACL, and per Het Laatste Nieuws' Kristof Terreur, he's not likely to return to the pitch anytime soon:

Knee injuries are always tricky, and given the severity of this particular setback, Leya Iseka might not even play again before the end of this season. After that, the youngster is going to need time to build muscle in his knee once again, and all things considered, it could be two years before he's back to his old self.

No team is going to invest in a young, unproven player who just suffered a serious knee injury. Wenger may well choose to keep tabs on Leya Iseka, who still has bags of potential, but it's highly unlikely he'll be leaving Brussels in the next couple of years.
