Arsenal Fined and Warned by FA over Calum Chambers Transfer

Arsenal have been handed a £60,000 fine and warning by the FA over their future conduct in the transfer market for breaching the association's Football Agent Regulations in their acquisition of Calum Chambers from Southampton in 2014.

The FA released a statement revealing the disciplinary measures, which also extend to "authorised agent" Alan Middleton for his involvement in the deal.

Middleton will receive a £30,000 fine along with a three-month suspension from agency activity that will be "suspended in its entirety for 18 months from 23 October 2015 and will not take effect unless he commits an offence contrary to the agents regulations or The FA’s regulations on working with intermediaries during this time."

The statement explains that "Arsenal admitted part of the breach but denied another, which was found not proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission."

According to BBC Sport's Steve Canavan and Patrick Jennings, the disciplinary procedure was brought on by the involvement of "an unauthorised and unlicensed agent."

We acted in good faith throughout in this transfer and had no reason to believe that the player's representative was not authorised to be involved in the transfer negotiations.

The FA fully recognised that there was no intention to mislead on Arsenal's part.

It's also important to note the case represents an isolated incident, so there's little to suggest Arsenal are in danger of further punishment regarding such rule breaches in the future.
