Breeders' Cup Draw 2015: Post Position Draw Start Times and Lineup Info

Steve SilvermanOct 26, 2015

The best racehorses in the world will be featured in the 2015 Breeders' Cup at Keeneland October 30 and 31, and those thoroughbreds will come from a variety of age groups and run varying distances on different surfaces.

However, while there will be heavy interest in all 13 races on the Breeders' Cup card, it is the Classic that will capture the attention of all racing fans because Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will return to action.

The Triple Crown winner and nine other horses are scheduled to run in the featured Classic, which will be run at 5:35 p.m. (ET) on Saturday and televised on NBC.

American Pharoah's presence in the Breeders' Cup Classic will make this event stand out even more than usual. Here's a closer look at that race.

Classic Analysis

There is no doubt about American Pharoah's place in racing history after becoming the sport's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed accomplished the feat in 1978.

He will be joined in a star-studded field that includes Beholder, Hard Aces, Honor Code, Smooth Roller, Tonalist, Effinex, Frosted, Keen Ice and Gleneagles.

According to the Daily Racing Form's Jay Privman, the field is of the highest quality and is a roll call of the best in the sport:

"

Classic field combined: Ky Derby, Preakness, 2 Belmonts, Met Mile, Haskell, Travers, Whitney, 2 JC Gold Cups, 2 Breeders’ Cups, 3 Eclipses.

After winning the Belmont Stakes to conclude the Triple Crown, American Pharoah came back to win the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, but he lost the Travers Stakes to Keen ice.

Keen Ice was clearly at his best at the Travers at Saratoga in August, but he struggled against American Pharoah in previous races. He finished third in the Belmont Stakes and seventh in the Kentucky Derby.

Beholder is one of the top horses of her generation. The five-year-old won all five races she entered this year and 15 of 20 races in her lifetime with earnings of more than $4.4 million.

Frosted also appears to be a horse that can give American Pharoah a major challenge. Frosted finished fourth in the Kentucky Derby and second in the Belmont Stakes. He also finished third in the Travers to Keen Ice and American Pharoah.

Honor Code was sired by A.P. Indy, and he has won the Metropolitan Handicap and the Whitney. Throughout his career, he has won six of the 10 races he has entered and more than $2.2 million in his career.

Irish horse Gleneagles is trained by Aidan O'Brien, who is one of the best at his profession in Europe. O'Brien's horses have won all the biggest Irish and English races, and he has earned more than $14.9 million in the Breeders' Cup races during his career. Gleneagles has won three of the four races he has entered this year.

Don't overlook Tonalist, who won the 2014 Belmont Stakes. The four-year-old ended California Chrome's bid for the Triple Crown and has won two Jockey Club Gold Cups.

Smooth Roller may be the most interesting horse in the race. He has been to the post just four times in his career but has won three of those races. One of the victories was a true surprise, as he pulled away by five-and-a-half lengths at Santa Anita in the Awesome Again Stakes in September.

While four races would not seem to qualify him for the Classic, he defeated 2014 Classic champion Bayern in the Awesome Again Stakes. Smooth Roller is a four-year old gelding.
