Nemanja Matic Receives Red Card vs. West Ham: Latest Details and Reaction

Gianni VerschuerenOct 24, 2015

Chelsea suffered yet another setback during Saturday's Premier League match against West Ham United, as star midfielder Nemanja Matic was sent off for a second bookable offence minutes before half-time. The Blues were already down by a goal at that point.

Already on a yellow card, the Serb went into a tackle on Diafra Sakho, and after some discussion between the official and his assistant, he was rightly given his marching orders.

Just minutes earlier, Chelsea had been denied an equalising goal after Cesc Fabregas was ruled to have been offside, and Goal's Ives Galarcep thought the Blues wouldn't be too happy with the assistants:

The Blues hounded the official immediately after he made the decision, and Fabregas and John Terry were also treated to bookings before the match went on.

Former England international Gary Lineker was already looking forward to how manager Jose Mourinho would react in his post-match press conference:

The defending champions have started the Premier League season in dreadful form and sat in 12th place in the standings entering the match. Mourinho has already clashed with the Football Association, with the former accusing officials of being biased against his club, per BBC Sport.

This latest incident won't help how he feels about the FA, and ESPN FC's Alex Shaw thought it was right in line with how the Blues' season has played out so far:

According to Duncan Castles of the Sunday Times, Mourinho was sent to the stands at the end of the first half. The 2-0 win over Aston Villa in Week 9 seems almost a distant memory at this point, and the crisis at Stamford Bridge may have just gotten a little deeper.
