The Top 10 New Sports Families
While everyone knows last names like Manning, Griffey and Miller in sports because of their great history and longevity, a new breed of families are beginning to emerge as the first-class bloodlines.
And, thanks to social media, us sports fans are given the opportunity to see some of the coolest parents-children and siblings-siblings moments in sports, documenting them all and giving us a sneak peek behind the scenes.
We'll always remember the aforementioned families, but these new ones are creating a legacy that will give the next generation something to carry with them, too.
The Breeses
1 of 10
Maybe I'm the only one who has picked up on this, but I really have a gut feeling that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees' three sons will become the next great football family.
There are just too many similarities to another family whose dad played for the Saints: the Mannings.
With three boys who, notably, are still too young to play football, Brees' sons have gotten some attention through commercials. Following his team's Super Bowl win in 2010, his son Baylen stole the show on the shoulders of his dad at the podium.
Again, who knows if the Brees kids will go on to athletic prowess like their dad or not, but there's something that makes me think that, with a future Hall of Fame dad in the house, they'll have plenty of natural skill to do so.
The Seagers
2 of 10
Kyle Seager is a third baseman for the Seattle Mariners who has become one of the leaders for a club that hopes to make a postseason run in 2016, but his younger brother Corey has already seen what October baseball tastes like, as he was called up in September by the Los Angeles Dodgers to play shortstop and never relinquished the starting role.
Both Seagers are crafty with the bat and glove, making me think that they had their fair share of days and nights practicing with one another in the backyard.
And that's not even mentioning the other Seager brother, Justin Seager, who was drafted by Kyle's M's in 2013 and is making his way through the low minors toward joining his older bro in Seattle.
The Browns
3 of 10Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers might be one of the top wideouts in the league right now, but his son, Antonio Brown Jr., is quickly becoming one of the cutest kids of famous athletes.
At least, that's the question many are wondering after Junior's performance on the dance floor during a charity event with his dad and family earlier this season.
While dad catches passes on the gridiron, younger Antonio is catching recognition as being a bigger star than Riley Curry—and she took over the NBA playoffs last season with her charm.
The Watts
4 of 10Unless you've been living under a rock these past few years, you know exactly who J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans is.
A two-time league Defensive Player of the Year, J.J. terrifies opposing quarterbacks as much as the Boogeyman does during Halloween.
But he's not the only player with the last name Watt who is making a name for himself, as his brothers T.J. and Derek have gained some popularity because of their football skills, too.
Sports fans saw this firsthand during a segment on HBO's Hard Knocks during training camp, as J.J. flew from Houston to Dallas to see his alma mater Wisconsin play against Alabama, while giving some advice to his little brothers, who both play for the Badgers.
Like most on this list, T.J. and Derek have a tough road to follow in being as good as J.J., but they have the right bloodlines to do so—and the support of their mom.
The Thompsons
5 of 10
Mychal Thompson was the first overall pick in the 1978 NBA draft, going on to win two championships in 12 seasons in the league, but his sons Klay and Trayce, specifically, are starting to be remembered for their own accomplishments now, too.
Klay, who makes up one of the Splash Brothers with backcourt mate Steph Curry on the Golden State Warriors, is coming off a season in which he won an NBA title and averaged 21.7 points per game, which included an insane 52-point outburst against the Sacramento Kings—37 coming in the fourth quarter.
As for Trayce, he was called up to the Chicago White Sox this season after being named one of their top prospects, finding some playing time in outfield and putting together a decent first season in the bigs.
The family also has another brother, Mychel, who has played in the NBA and pro ball elsewhere.
Their dad may have the most rings and stigma as the No. 1 pick, playing alongside some of the best players in NBA history, but the Thompson boys are proving that they might be even better then Pops when all is said and done.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Son
6 of 10Cristiano Ronaldo is, arguably, the top soccer player in the world, grabbing attention from everyone, anywhere he goes. His son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is becoming a lot like his dad in that regard.
While CR7 scores lots of goals and accolades, Junior has actually become a little famous for rooting for another world-class player, Lionel Messi, as it's reported that Ronaldo's son was nervous when seeing Messi at an awards banquet earlier this year.
More recently, little Cristiano has been popping up on the Internet after trolling his grandma and telling her who he thought was the best player on the planet—Messi.
The Longs
7 of 10
Not only has Howie Long been on Fox NFL Sunday for the past 22 years following his Hall of Fame playing career, but his offspring have joined him in working on Sundays, as sons Chris and Kyle are currently in the league and playing for the St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears, respectively.
Chris, who starred for the Virginia Cavaliers in college and was the No. 2 overall pick in 2008, has 53.5 career sacks as a defensive end, while Kyle, an offensive tackle, was chosen 20th overall in 2013 by the Bears out of Oregon and has made two straight Pro Bowls in his two years in the NFL.
Neither Long plays the glamorous quarterback position—so they don't often get too much recognition—but they're still pretty darn good at the ones they do play.
The Gronkowskis
8 of 10
Thanks to his ridiculous behavior off the field and his pulverizing beast mode on it, sports fans just can't get enough of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Gronk may be wild, but a lot of that comes from growing up with four brothers—Chris, Glenn, Dan and Gordie Jr.—who all played football at a major college or in the NFL, showing that there are some good genes in the Gronkowski family.
Often talking about how they used to wrestle around with each other growing up and showing up to award shows together, the Gronkowski boys are quickly becoming the prototypical football family—tough, blue-collar and old school in how they play.
The Currys
9 of 10
It's actually pretty crazy to think how fortunate the Golden State Warriors are in having not one, but two young stars on their team—Steph Curry and Klay Thompson—and they both come from NBA backgrounds.
Curry, who was the league MVP last season and is just dirty when it comes to shooting the rock, won more than just a title last year, as he introduced his daughter Riley, who often stole the show during his postgame press conferences.
While Steph is the best-known Curry now, it was younger brother Seth who was ahead in the popularity department for a while, as he played under Coach K for the Duke Blue Devils, and has bounced around hoping to find a team in the Association to play for.
Seth caught on with the Sacramento Kings, who hope he can duplicate the shooting stroke of his brother and dad, 16-year NBA vet Dell Curry.
LeBron James' Family
10 of 10It's not hard to see why LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers is the most popular athlete on the planet.
Guiding his teams to five straight NBA Finals appearances, winning two titles and two league MVPs during that span, Bron is the quintessential baller and a leader on and off the floor.
Well, his family is starting to get a heck of a lot of attention, too, with his son Bronny recently gaining national exposure for his skills on the court and showing that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
James' family has also appeared in a number of commercials with him—especially since his return to Northeast Ohio in 2014, James' hometown area. He uses social media frequently, routinely posting pictures and videos of his three kids and wife Savannah.
