Amir Khan's Next Fight: Brit Talks Tim Bradley, Keith Thurman, Kell Brook, More
British fighter Amir Khan has named Timothy Bradley, Keith Thurman and Kell Brook among the potential opponents for his next fight following a breakdown in negotiations with Manny Pacquiao.
Khan had been widely rumoured to be Pacquiao's next opponent following the Filipino's May defeat to Floyd Mayweather Jr., but the Bolton-born fighter recently ended talks with the eight-division champion, per Abu Dhabi newspaper the National (h/t Sky Sports).
He has now called out a number of the welterweight division's top fighters as he looks to lock down a high-profile bout, having not fought since his May defeat of Chris Algieri, per ESPN Deportes (via Miguel Rivera of BoxingScene.com):
"I would love to fight with Bradley, I like his style and it is a fight that I hope will happen in the future. Keith Thurman is also a good possibility, it would also be a good fight. Kell Brook, I'm sure that would be a great event in England. I'm in a great position where I can pick some big names but many don't want to fight me.
"
Khan has had some bad luck with sealing a big fight since he returned to prominence with five consecutive victories in his last five fights.
He was widely believed to be in the frame to be Mayweather's 49th—and final—opponent in September before the undefeated American surprised the boxing world by choosing to face the undeserving Andre Berto, per ESPN's Dan Rafael:
A fight with Pacquiao would have been just consolation for Khan following Mayweather's snub, but it now seems out of the question.
However, a clash with WBO welterweight champion Bradley, WBA champion Thurman or IBF titleholder Brook would arguably be the next best thing.
Per Rivera, Khan is aiming for a December return. Unfortunately for him, Brook is currently out of action through injury, Thurman is scheduled to meet Shawn Porter in December, and Bradley will face Brandon Rios next month.
None of them look like a possible opponent for Khan in 2015.
Khan previously had a shot at fighting Bradley earlier in 2015, but he turned it down as he eyed a shot at Mayweather or Pacquiao.
The 28-year-old is now left in a difficult position, as he has no obvious opponent to face before the end of the year, although he has also previously mentioned Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson, per BBC Sport.
He will undoubtedly get to face one of the high-profile fighters he wants as long as he stays in the picture, but a 2015 clash with one of Bradley, Thurman or Brook is highly unlikely.
