New Zealand vs. France: Score, Reaction from Rugby World Cup 2015 Quarter-Final

Christopher SimpsonOct 17, 2015

New Zealand scored nine tries as they thrashed France 62-13 in their quarter-final at the Rugby World Cup 2015 on Saturday.

Brodie Retallick and Nehe Milner-Skudder went over in the first half, while in the second half, Jerome Kaino and Kieran Read got in on the action. The All Blacks also enjoyed a brace from Tawera Kerr-Barlow and an even more impressive hat-trick from Julian Savea.

Louis Picamoles replied with a consolation for France, who visibly tired in the face of New Zealand's relentless onslaught late on.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

The metronomic Dan Carter drew first blood after Thierry Dusautoir failed to release Aaron Smith, and Scott Spedding soon equalised spectacularly from 56 metres off the post after Retallick used his hands in the ruck.

Shortly after, Retallick made amends as he charged down Frederic Michalak's clearance and ran unopposed to touch down, per ITV Rugby:

Michalak was injured in the collision and soon limped off, though former England player Austin Healey believed losing their key man was a blessing in disguise:

Morgan Parra reduced the deficit with another France penalty, but the rampant All Blacks went over again after 23 minutes through Milner-Skudder, who danced through the French line with consummate ease:

Savea scored a third try to make things even worse for Les Bleus. France sparked hopes of a comeback five minutes from half-time as Picamoles crept over the line with three All Blacks players in tow:

Those hopes were quickly extinguished, though, as Savea scored his brace just two minutes later at the corner.

Try-scorer Picamoles made things even harder for his side after the restart when he was sin-binned for pushing his fist into the face of Richie McCaw, and New Zealand took full advantage as they capitalised on the man-advantage to go over on the left.

The French were pinned inside their own half for much of the proceedings as the All Blacks continued to turn the screw, and Savea had his hat-trick when he touched down right under the posts:

Opta Jonny noted his outstanding achievement:

Read was next to get in on the action as he scored between the posts at a canter just after the hour-mark, and a quick-fire double from Kerr-Barlow completed the humiliating score.

New Zealand were at their majestic best throughout with France hapless in the face of their stunning attacking play.

Semi-final opponents South Africa played well in their win over Wales, but with the All Blacks in this kind of form, it's difficult to see past them winning the World Cup let alone just reaching the final.
