Real Madrid Transfer News: Rafa Benitez Talks Sergio Ramos to Man United Rumours
Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has revealed his battle to keep defender Sergio Ramos at the club.
According to Marca, he told Onda Cero radio's Al Primer Toque: "I fought more than anyone for Ramos to stay. There are absolutely no problems between us. He's our captain, an outstanding footballer and he has to keep showing that."
Ramos was repeatedly linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer and looked likely to make the switch to Old Trafford after his relationship with the club seemingly broke down, but he ended the speculation regarding his future when he put pen to paper on a new five-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Benitez and Ramos clashed following the 1-1 derby draw with Atletico Madrid, with the manager criticising his player for giving away a penalty and likewise Ramos taking issue with Benitez's questionable substitutions.

However, the pair soon buried the hatchet, and Benitez reiterated there were no problems in his dressing room.
Per Marca's report, he added: "We have a great dressing room and there is a very good, relaxed and healthy atmosphere among the players."
Aside from giving away the penalty against Atletico—which Antoine Griezmann missed—keeping the 29-year-old has thus far proved a good decision with the defender putting in some impressive showings.
According to Squawka, Ramos has averaged 13 blocks, interceptions or clearances per game in La Liga this season. He's also won five tackles and an incredible 11 aerial duels out of 13.
As the penalty demonstrated, the Spaniard still has his trademark propensity to go into meltdown on occasion, but his experience will be invaluable to Benitez as he seeks to wrest the title away from Barcelona.
It's not inconceivable United could renew their interest in Ramos next summer, but provided Benitez's relationship with Ramos remains positive he's not likely to leave the club any time soon.
