Oscar Pistorius Released from Prison, Moved to House Arrest
After spending one year in prison for the shooting death of Reeva Steenkamp, former Olympic track star Oscar Pistorius was released from prison Monday.
Brian Webber, Pistorius' lawyer, confirmed his client's release to Chapman Bell and Jon Schuppe of NBC News. Webber said Pistorius is "now staying at an uncle's house under correctional supervision."
Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison last year after being found guilty of culpable homicide. The double amputee shot and killed his supermodel girlfriend in February 2013, but he claimed it was done in self-defense, as he believed the person he shot at through the bathroom door in his home was an intruder.

During his trial, Pistorius expressed remorse and regret for the actions that led to the 29-year-old Steenkamp's death, per David Smith of the Guardian:
"I'd like to apologise and say that there's not a moment and there hasn't been a moment since this tragedy happened that I haven't thought about your family. I wake up every morning and you're the first people I think of, the first people I pray for. I can't imagine the pain and the sorrow and the emptiness that I've caused you and your family.
"
Pistorius—who was known as the Blade Runner during his track career—is an eight-time Paralympic medalist and competed in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
He was arguably South Africa's greatest sportsman and was heralded as a hero. It is unclear how long Pistorius will remain under house arrest and if he has any plans of resuming his athletic career thereafter.
