NASCAR at Charlotte 2015 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction
Sunday's Bank of America 500 marked the first race in the 2015 Chase for the Sprint Cup's Contender Round at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Joey Logano emerged with the checkered flag to move one step closer to NASCAR's ultimate prize.
Matt Kenseth started on the pole position and led 73 laps but unfortunately battled car troubles all day and fell well off the winning pace. Although Kenseth did his best to fight back, he couldn't overcome hitting the wall multiple times and wound up in 42nd place.
Check out the top finishers from Sunday's race:

| 2 | Kevin Harvick | 0.704 |
| 3 | Martin Truex Jr. | 4.918 |

| 7 | Austin Dillon | 10.236 |

Another Chase contender in Ryan Newman and Kenseth collided when Newman's left front bumped Kenseth's right rear, sending the latter into the wall on the 177th lap, per Fox Sports' Jay Pennell. Kenseth then skimmed the wall again on Lap 204 and smashed into it on Lap 241, per NASCAR.com.
Logano, who started close to the front in third, had already established himself as the dominant force on the track by then. NASCAR Stats highlighted how much damage Logano had done even before his win became official:
The final few laps saw Kevin Harvick put forth a valiant effort to overtake Logano for the lead, but it was not quite enough:
Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press made note of how many close calls Harvick has had in what's been a solid season but could have been a spectacular one with a little more luck:
NASCAR's brightest young star in Logano took command of the race with a masterful performance on a day when many marquee teams had serious difficulties. The official Twitter feed for NASCAR had a suitable reaction to what was transpiring:
At least a number of the remaining 12 Chase contenders can be pleased with Sunday's outcome, as eight of them placed inside the top nine, including soon-to-be-retired legend Jeff Gordon.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was critical of the track afterwards, per USA Today's Jeff Gluck:
The race was postponed from Saturday's scheduled start, and the argument will be made by many that it was too difficult to race on Sunday.
Weathering nine caution flags and a field full of top-flight competitors who held up rather well under Chase pressure, Logano led 227 laps in total en route to claiming the victory. The adverse conditions made his win all the more impressive. He's now automatically qualified for the Eliminator Round, which pits the final eight in Chase contention against each other.
Sunday marked Logano's fourth win of the 2015 campaign and his third since August. It took him a while to back up his breakthrough to begin the year at the Daytona 500, but Logano is certainly living up to the hype now.
Martin Truex Jr. hinted afterward at the huge stakes that lie ahead for those not fortunate to be in Logano's enviable position.
"Logano is the only one who's going to sleep for the next two weeks," said Truex, per Furniture Row Racing.
Next up in the Chase's Contender Round is the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Adding to the intrigue of that race is the fact Logano is the defending champion there.
If Kenseth can take any solace in Sunday's disappointment, at least he's returning to a track in Kansas City, Kansas, that he's won at as recently as 2012.
But most eyes in the coming weeks will be on Logano to see if he can cap off a championship and add a landmark accolade to his resume at age 25. Chances are he will at least keep the momentum going from Sunday's trip to Victory Lane at a venue he's had positive memories at in the recent past.
