Greg Hardy Rap Video Referencing Guns and Strippers Emerges

Tim DanielsOct 10, 2015

Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy is set to make his season debut Sunday after serving a four-game suspension for his role in a 2014 domestic violence incident. He's now facing even more backlash, however, after the emergence of a rap video in which he is featured.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported the video, which was made late last year, doesn't directly violate any league policies despite objectifying women and including the sound of gunfire. He noted it will likely draw the ire of both the NFL and the Cowboys anyway.

TMZ Sports released the full video (language NSFW). It included lyrics such as "It'll be a cold day in hell before your girl tries to play me" and "What you see is what you get. I'm just me, I'm just real, and that's all that I do."

Hardy has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons since returning to the Cowboys. In his first meeting with the media, he made two head-shaking remarks, per Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram.

"I love seeing Tom Brady. He's cool," Hardy said. "Have you seen his wife? I hope she comes to the game; I hope her sister comes to the game, all her friends come to the game. One of my favorite games of the year, guys."

Along with the reference to Gisele Bundchen, Hardy also mentioned guns.

"I hope I come out guns blazin'," he said. "I'm full of excitement and full of juice. I'm ready to go. I have what they call fresh legs."

Todd Archer of ESPN noted Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he discussed the comments with Hardy "immediately" after the presser.

"We just addressed it immediately. That's not how we want to operate as an organization," Garrett said. "Players and coaches in our organization understand that. We want to distinguish ourselves with our play, not with what we say. We want to define ourselves with what we do, not by what we say. I think Greg understands that now, and that's how we want to proceed going forward."

At a time when Hardy should be trying to serve as a model member of the team, he's having trouble avoiding the negative headlines.

As Florio stated, the defender is unlikely to face any punishment for the video. That said, his decision-making must improve if he wants the focus to shift back to football.
