Liverpool Transfer News: Philippe Coutinho's Agent Addresses Reds Exit Rumours
A representative of Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho has ruled out a transfer move to Real Madrid or Barcelona for the Brazilian, in response to reports from Spain claiming the Reds had already entered discussions with Barcelona regarding a move.
Lluis Miguelsanz of Catalan newspaper Sport made the claims and also stated Coutinho was very keen on a transfer, but Kia Joorabchian, a representative of the player, has stepped forward to deny the reports, via the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel:
"Philippe is extremely happy at Liverpool. He signed a new long term contract towards the end of last season that represents his ambition and his feeling for Liverpool.
Reports that I have been talking to Real Madrid about Philippe are not true.
His aspirations are to qualify for the Champions League with Liverpool this season and to win a trophy. That is all that he is focused on – and nothing else.

The initial report from Sport drew some scepticism in the British media, and as explained by Sport Witness, the Catalan newspaper has a tendency to go overboard when it comes to rumours regarding the Blaugrana.
That's not to say Barcelona aren't interested in Coutinho, however. Rumours have been swirling ever since compatriot and close friend Neymar told reporters he'd like the 23-year-old to move to the Camp Nou, via BBC Sport, and there has been too much talk for there not to be a grain of truth in the reports.
Looking ahead at the challenges ahead for Jurgen Klopp should he become the new Reds manager, Sky Sports' Guillem Balague highlighted Coutinho and Barca's reported interest:
The attacking midfielder established himself as one of the Premier League's top creative outlets in 2014-15, growing into a role as Liverpool's new midfield leader. His success hasn't carried over to the 2015-16 campaign so far, scoring just one goal in the Premier League, per WhoScored.com.
Consistency remains an issue for Coutinho, who has a tendency to drift in and out of matches, but his immense potential is undeniable. He's usually Liverpool's most dangerous player and figures to be a key piece of the puzzle moving forward.
With Brendan Rodgers no longer in charge of the club, the Reds are nearing an important crossroads. If the right manager is appointed and success returns to Anfield, players of the calibre of Coutinho won't be so eager to leave the club to chase silverware as they have in the past couple of years, with Luis Suarez the most obvious example.
If the new experiment fails, it could be the final push these star players need to leave. With the exception of the magical 2013-14 campaign, Liverpool's recent track record has been something of a disaster, and top players like Coutinho can only stomach losing for so long.
Barcelona would present an intriguing destination should he decide to move, given the obvious connection with Neymar and the club's consistent excellence, both in Spain and Europe.
Coutinho would never be an immediate starter, with Lionel Messi, Suarez and Neymar locked into the three attacking spots, but he would be an interesting depth option and long-term project.
La Liga blogger Sergi Dominguez isn't so sure Coutinho is what the Blaugrana need right now, however:
As good and talented as Coutinho is, there's no denying he's simply not ready to be an impact player for the Catalans. As stated before, consistency remains an issue, as evidenced by his goal haul in 2015-16, and at the Camp Nou, you either produce every single week or you're relegated to the bench.
This is Anfield's Jack Lusby agrees an extended stay with the Reds is a better idea:
"Understandably, he can be found to drift out of games, lacking a certain level of tactical intelligence under pressure, as well as falling foul to a detrimental selfishness at times—with his 10 shots on goal at Anfield the prime example of this.
This poses the question of whether he could truly cope with the demands of life in Barcelona.
"
With Liverpool, Coutinho is the top man in midfield, the primary creator the new manager will build his squad around. Even if he dreams of a career in the iconic kit of Barcelona, he would be better served honing his skills at Anfield before moving to La Liga in a couple of years.
Judging by Joorabchian's comments, Coutinho has no intention of leaving the Reds anytime soon, and while the Catalan media may read the representative's comments and notice he only talked about Real Madrid, we shouldn't expect an official announcement of a transfer anytime soon.
