Auburn, Under Armour Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Comments, Reaction
The Auburn Tigers and prominent apparel company Under Armour have agreed to a new contract through 2025.
ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy reported the news Thursday, which was confirmed through a news release on the school's official athletics website. Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs emphasized how Under Armour will have a hand in designing even the university's less exposed sports: "It will impact all sports, but an area this relationship has improved on every year involves our Olympic sports. Under Armour met the demands, expectations and requests of our coaches in those Olympic sports. It's great to have a partner that makes you feel like you're their No. 1 customer."
This fresh deal ensures the Tigers uniforms will continue to sparkle and drip with swagger for the next decade for their 21 sports. That's at least some solace to take amid the school's current struggles on the gridiron—the most visible of Auburn's athletic programs.
Hyped junior quarterback Jeremy Johnson has been a bust under center in 2015 and was benched for redshirt freshman Sean White after three games. Coach Gus Malzahn's bunch is facing early adversity after consecutive losses to Top 25 SEC rivals LSU and Mississippi State.
Next up for the Tigers is a more generous matchup against San Jose State at home. Perhaps White and the offense can find a rhythm after the unit managed just 30 points over the prior two contests, though the Spartans do rank 36th nationally in total yards allowed per contest.
