Boyd's Season Over After Being Carted Off Field

The Packers confirmed the news on Boyd after Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that an MRI revealed "torn ankle ligaments to go with a broken small bone." Rapoport noted at the time that the defensive lineman's season was in doubt after the diagnosis.
The news comes after Rapoport tweeted that the first diagnosis was "not as bad as it seemed" and that the team was not expecting to lose Boyd for extended time.
Boyd played 15 games for the Packers last season, and Sports Illustrated was impressed with his showing in the first contest against the Chicago Bears:
"And now Josh Boyd down. Really liked him at his Senior Bowl. Had a nice game in rotation vs. Chicago.

Green Bay was a disappointing 23rd in the league against the run last season and gave up 141 rushing yards to Matt Forte in Week 1. If it plans on fulfilling its Super Bowl potential, it can ill afford to lose important defensive line pieces like Boyd when facing the run.
The Packers' next two games come against the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. The former's Jamaal Charles is one of the best running backs in the league, and Carlos Hyde dominated in the latter's Week 1 victory against the Minnesota Vikings, so the Packers will have their hands full without Boyd.
The silver lining is the presence of B.J. Raji and Mike Daniels as two regulars up front. Each must pick up his play with Boyd lost for the year..
