New NFL Rumors Update Potential Zach Ertz, Eagles Reunion Amid TE's Injury Recovery

Zach Ertz could be returning to the City of Brotherly Love.

According to EJ Smith of PHLY Sports, an "Ertz reunion with the Philadelphia Eagles is on the table, according to league sources. Ertz is nearing the nine-month mark of recovery from a major knee injury and nothing is imminent, but Ertz would welcome a return and makes sense for the team."

Ertz, 35, spent parts of his first nine seasons with the Birds (2013-21), earning three Pro Bowl bids and a Super Bowl championship in the process. He then had stints with the Arizona Cardinals (2021-23) and Washington Commanders (2024-25).

He was having a solid season in 2025, registering 50 catches for 504 yards and four touchdowns, before an ACL tear in early December ended his season.

"He has meant a lot to our team, both on and off the field," head coach Dan Quinn told reporters at the time. "He's been an ideal teammate to help set a standard and about habits, and so we're all bummed for him."

There were questions about whether Ertz might choose to retire after such an injury, though it pretty quickly became apparent that he wasn't ready to hang up his helmet just yet.

As for the Eagles, Dallas Goedert is entrenched as the starter at tight end, though adding depth behind him would make sense. The Eagles are currently carrying four tight ends on the roster (Goedert, Johnny Mundt, Eli Stowers and EJ Jenkins), though that may be in part due to Stowers currently dealing with a hamstring issue.

Ertz's experience and pass-catching ability would offer the Eagles another weapon, and the former fan-favorite would certainly be welcomed back with open arms by Philadelphians.
