Weddle Comments on Potential Return
Tuesday, Nov. 3
Weddle discussed his status for Week 9, per ESPN's Eric D. Williams:
"I’m going to be back as soon as I’m able to and hopefully sooner than later so I can [be] out there with my guys.
I’m feeling really good actually. We’ll see how the week progresses and how I’m able to ramp things up.
If I don’t practice, I won’t play. I won’t do that to the guys. Even though I think I could, with this type of injury I can’t go into the game without going full speed, and instinctually testing it without being told what to do—running cone drills or certain things that you can prepare your leg to do, guard it. Hopefully I can get in a practice.
"
How Weddle's Injury Impacted Chargers
Weddle is three-time Pro Bowler, and 2015 is a critical year for him and the Chargers as a whole. He is in the final year of the five-year, $40 million contract he signed before the 2011 season, joining Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates among the long-term members of the franchise who could be on the move.
"I just want to go out on a high note, go out on top and lead my team," Weddle said in August, per Williams. "I want to continue to show what I’m all about. I’m a pro. I’m a professional and strive to be the best and try to have fun. It’s all in the past. I can’t control it. They will do what they want. That’s their plan, I have mine and I’ll make the most of it."
Weddle and the Chargers have had talks regarding a deal, but those have mostly gone nowhere. He entered 2015 having made the last two AFC Pro Bowl teams, compiling more than 100 tackles in both 2013 and 2014. He had 43 tackles heading into Week 7.
