Yasiel Puig Injury: Updates on Dodgers Star's Hamstring and Return
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig missed over a month with a hamstring injury earlier in the season and was pulled from Aug. 27's game with a recurrence of his hamstring issues. He was activated off the disabled list and placed in the Dodgers' lineup against the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
On Oct. 1, Mattingly said Puig was "running at 100 percent in workouts" and would play four innings on defense in the rehab game that day, calling his progress "miraculous," per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register.
On Sept. 28, Jorge L. Ortiz of USA Today reported Puig wouldn't play again in 2015, so the return prior to the postseason is somewhat unexpected.

Puig was stellar immediately after returning from his initial hamstring setback, finishing the month of June with a .303 average and 23 hits. The team will hope he can replicate that sort of success as he returns this month.
His production tapered off significantly in July and August—particularly compared to his career averages.
| April | .279 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 5 | .380 |
| May | N/A (Injured) | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A | N/A |
| June | .303 | 1 | 6 | 16 | 10 | .384 |
| July | .198 | 4 | 16 | 26 | 5 | .239 |
| August | .250 | 4 | 12 | 15 | 6 | .311 |
During his first two seasons in Hollywood, Puig batted .305 with an on-base percentage of .386 while slamming a combined 35 home runs.
Before Puig went down against Oakland in August, Mattingly discussed how the outfielder's inconsistencies at the plate have made him more of a matchup player than an everyday player, per ESPN.com's Mark Saxon.
Puig has been undeniably streaky when healthy, but the Dodgers can use his pop in spots as they seek to capture a World Series title.
