Kelly Comments on Ertz's Recovery
Monday, Nov. 30
Head coach Chip Kelly told reporters Ertz is "close" to a return but has yet to be cleared through the league's concussion protocol.
Ertz Struggling in 2015
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane, Ertz's core muscle injury earlier this season was actually classified as a partial tear of his groin muscle during training camp. And while it wasn't considered a severe injury, head coach Chip Kelly wanted to be proactive and address the situation before the team opened its preseason slate.
Ertz returned in time for the season opener, but he hasn't posted numbers that reflect his true abilities. Entering Week 11, he had accumulated 382 yards and zero touchdowns on 36 receptions. Prior to leaving in Week 11, he had two receptions for 12 yards on four targets.
Ertz had actually emerged as one of the Eagles' most reliable receivers over the past few years. Not only is he a polished route-runner who can get up the field and burn defenses down the seam, but his leaping ability at 6'5" is a major asset to Kelly's offense.
He has yet to reach his full potential, but there's no denying his talent adds another dimension to a Philadelphia passing attack that's regularly struggled to move the ball downfield under the guidance of Sam Bradford.
Should Ertz miss more time this season, Brent Celek should see a larger share of snaps.
