Wyndham Clark Breaks Open Five-Shot Lead
1 of 3
Wyndham Clark extended his advantage by multiple shots on Saturday.
Clark produced a five-under 65, the third round he's had of 65 or better this week.
Clark's day didn't start well, though, as he carded a double bogey on the first hole.
His putter caught fire around the turn. He birdied the seventh, eagled the eighth and then birdied the 10th and 11th holes.
Clark then went on to birdie the 13th and 14th holes to move further away from the rest of the field.
A bogey on the 18th hole did stunt some momentum, but there's still a wide gap between him and the rest of the field.
He enters Sunday as the clear favorite to win the BMW Championship, and if he continues to play well, he has to viewed as a threat to Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy next week at the Tour Championship.
Rory McIlroy Among Saturday's Low Scorers
2 of 3
Rory McIlroy was one of four players to shoot a five-under 65 on Saturday.
McIlroy's round allowed him to move into a tie for second place alongside Patrick Cantlay.
McIlroy had quite the eventful back nine to reach his current spot on the leaderboard.
The Northern Irishman rolled in birdies on the 11th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes. He also gave a shot back to the course with a bogey at the 14th.
McIlroy's shot 64, 69 and 65 so far this week in St. Louis. The three low scores are a good sign for what he can do next week.
Patrick Cantlay Among Handful of Golfers Fighting for Top 30 FedEx Cup Spots
3 of 3
Patrick Cantlay's jump into a tie for second was the most significant Saturday move in the context of the FedEx Cup standings.
Cantlay moved up to 22nd in the projected FedEx Cup standings with his four-under 66. He started the week in 43rd.
Cantlay, Gary Woodland and Sungjae Im are the three golfers who have currently moved into the top 30 through three rounds. Woodland is in a tie for fourth, while Im is solo seventh.
Kurt Kitayama, Rickie Fowler and Bud Cauley reside in 31st-33rd in the projected standings. All of them will be out early on Sunday.
There's a good chance that a few players in the final groups on Sunday, including Cantlay, Woodland and Im, will be playing to make it to the Tour Championship until their final holes.
That at least adds some drama to Sunday's round if Clark remains well in front.
