Paddy Pimblett Beats Benoît Saint Denis, Stats, Prize Money & Highlights from UFC 329
Paddy Pimblett got back in the win column with a first-round submission win over Benoît Saint Denis in the co-main event of UFC 329.
Saint Denis wasted no time in getting to work, but that turned out to be a major mistake. Pimblett immediately latched on to a guillotine choke and transitioned it to a locked in D'Arce Choke until he put Saint Denis to sleep.
It is the second-fastest choke of its kind in UFC history.
Pimblett certainly didn't lose any of the fan backing after his loss to Justin Gaethje. His walkout was electric in Vegas.
He generated a massive pop with the finish as well.
Pimblett proved he could bounce back and continue to be relevant in the lightweight division with a win. His last bout was a unanimous decision loss to Justin Gaethje with the interim lightweight title on the line.
Of course, Gaethje shed the "interim" part of that title with a shocking win over Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250. Squandering an interim title opportunity and watching the winner go on to become champion could be devastating. However, Pimblett is right back in the thick of things with his win over Saint Denis.
He knows he can't ask for a title shot with just one win since his most recent loss. But he would like to use this victory to set up a date with another big name.
"As soon as I beat BSD, I'm back in title contention," he told UFC.com. "I had a good fight with the champion. People don't say it was close, but I think I lost 3-2. One of the judges thought I lost 3-2, so it was close… Beat (Saint Denis), and then it's whoever else is ranked above me. Everyone wants to see me fight Ilia (Topuria) – I'd love to beat the poor little (man) up."
Calling out Topuria, who will also be looking to bounce back from a loss against Gaethje, is a bit bold. Then again, Pimblett has made a name for himself with bold talk and the fight to back it up.
