Everything LeBron James Achieved with Lakers amid NBA Rumors on Icon's Free Agency Decision
The end of an era.
On Tuesday, multiple reports indicated that LeBron James has told the Los Angeles Lakers he will be moving on this summer, ending an eight-year relationship that has been very fruitful for all parties involved.

3 Reported LeBron Suitors
His list of accomplishments with the Lakers was incredibly impressive:
- Won a bubble championship during the COVID-19 pandemic and was named Finals MVP, the fourth time during his career he achieved both.
- Eight-time All-Star.
- Seven-time All-NBA selection.
- Led the NBA with 10.2 assists in the 2019-20 season.
- Set the NBA's all-time scoring record in 2023 (among numerous records he's broken along the way).
- Led the Lakers to the playoffs six times.
- Became the first father-son duo to play together when he took the court with Bronny James.
You could argue that James put together a Hall of Fame résumé in just his Lakers tenure alone, which was just one chapter in one of the greatest careers in U.S. sports history.
But once the Lakers turned the keys of the castle over to Luka Dončić, Tuesday's news seemed inevitable. Even last summer, there were indications that James was feeling a bit squeezed out as Dončić became face of the franchise.
"We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career," James' agent, Rich Paul, said in a statement to ESPN's Shams Charania last July. "He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him."
While James picked up his player option last June, there was major uncertainty regarding his plans for this summer's free agency. Part of the answer was revealed on Tuesday, with the Lakers now in the rearview mirror.
But questions abound. Will he join Stephen Curry this summer, pairing the two most iconic players of a generation in the Bay Area? Will he return to a former team like the Cleveland Cavaliers or Miami Heat? Is there a mystery suitor out there who might provide one final surprise in James' historic career?
We'll find out soon enough. But after eight years, James and the Lakers are no more.
