The Miami Heat are expected to land veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

Per Charania, Thompson will sign with Miami upon receiving a contract buyout from the Dallas Mavericks.

The Heat were already $10.6 million below the first apron prior to adding the four-time champion, via ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Here's a look at Miami's updated roster following the move.

Thompson established himself as one of the best shooters in NBA history during his tenure with the Golden State Warriors from 2011-24, earning five All-Star nods and two All-NBA selections.

He currently ranks No. 4 on the league's all-time three-point shootingย list.

His Warriors career was interrupted by Achilles and knee injuries that caused him to miss two straight seasons from 2019-21.

Still, Thompson returned to Golden State and helped the organization remain successful beforeย signingย a three-year contract with the Mavericks as a free agent in July 2024.

At the time, Dallas was coming off an NBA Finals appearance led by star Luka Donฤiฤ‡. The Mavericks ultimately traded Donฤiฤ‡ to the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2024-25 season, though.

Thompson averaged 12.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 40.3 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from behind the arc throughout his time in Dallas.

He'll now look to space the floor for Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo in Miami after the Heat acquired the latter star in aย blockbuster tradeย with the Milwaukee Bucks on June 22.

Miami is attempting to contend in the Eastern Conference after wrapping up a 43-39 finish last season.
