Live Updates and Highlights from Saturday's Week 2 NFL Preseason Games

It hasn't been all Cowboys on Saturday night, but Dallas has been coasting with a big lead for most of the night. 2027 seventh-round pick Phil Mafah added to the lead with this impressive touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys still have a two-score lead, but the Cardinals are finding ways to hang around. Dallas' second red-zone trip of the second half was ended when cornerback Isaiah Oliver snagged Sam Howell's pass in the end zone.

Oliver signed with Arizona in June after spending the last two seasons with the New York Jets.

The Cowboys found themselves back in scoring position on their first drive of the second half. However, Arizona's defense stiffened and essentially ended Dallas' opportunity when Eku Leota sacked Sam Howell for a six-yard loss. The Cowboys settled for a 29-yard field goal two plays later.

It was the second big play of the night for Leota, who had an impressive tackle for loss in the first half.

Things didn't go particularly well for the Cardinals as they fell into a 24-6 halftime hole. However, Arizona opened the third quarter with a lengthy drive, capped by Corey Kiner's one-yard touchdown run.

Earlier in the evening, Eagles running back Carson Steele made the highlight reel a couple of times by hurdling over defenders. Against Arizona, Cowboys ball-carrier Jaydon Blue decided to get in on the fun by leaping over safety Wydett Williams Jr.

The Cardinals were threatening to close the distance on Dallas late in the second quarter, but rookie defensive lineman LT Overton turned them away. The fourth-round pick out of Alabama battled through a block, wrapped Gardner Minshew, and took him to the ground to force an Arizona field goal.

Joe Milton III has delivered all three of Dallas' touchdowns to this point. He delivered the first two through the air but took the third one in himself.

Joe Milton III continues to torch the Cardinals defense. After Arizona got on the board with a field goal, he put Dallas right back in scoring range by hitting Camden Brown in stride, allowing the undrafted free agent to rack up a huge chunk of yards after the catch.

Milton scored on the following play to give the Cowboys a 21-3 lead.

The Cardinals are still searching for a long-term answer at quarterback, but they have an impressive skill group headlined by Trey McBride, Michael Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr. and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love.

Simi Fehoko didn't get much run with Arizona's offense last season, but a few more catches like this one could earn him some opportunities. A 2021 fifth-round pick out of Stanford, Fehoko spent his first two seasons in Dallas.

Cowboys quarterback Joe Milton III has his second touchdown pass of the game. The second was a perfectly placed ball that hit Jonathan Mingo in stride and allowed him to run right into the end zone for a 53-yard score.

Milton is up to 98 yards passing and two touchdowns through three drives.

Shavon Revel Jr. put the Cowboys in scoring range with an early interception, and Dallas cashed in a few plays later. Joe Milton III bought some time in the pocket and found Malik Davis, who barrelled into the end zone for the score.

The Dallas Cowboys have taken several steps to improve their defense this offseason, but it was second-year cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. who had Dallas' first big defensive play of Saturday night.

With the Arizona Cardinals operating in their own territory on their opening drive, Revel picked Gardner Minshew and returned it to the 12-yard line to set up a scoring opportunity.

We've now seen our third lead change of the fourth quarter in the Patriots and Eagles battle. Not long after Carson Steele gave Philly the edge, undrafted receiver Nick DeGennaro caught a pass from Behren Morton and raced down the field for a 37-yard go-ahead score.

Attempts to hurdle defenders don't always pay off for NFL running backs, but Philly's Carson Steele has successfully done it twice against New England. Late in the fourth quarter, he caught a pass from Tanner McKee, raced toward the end zone, and leapt over Patriots safety Eric Butler for a go-ahead score.

Kansas City was nursing a 9-7 lead late in the third quarter, but running back Emmett Johnson provided some breathing room with this touchdown run.

A fifth-round rookie out of Nebraska, Johnson is expected to provide depth behind free-agent additions Kenneth Walker III and Emari Demercado. He rushed for 1,451 yards and 12 touchdowns this past season with the Cornhuskers.

A week ago, undrafted quarterback Jalon Daniels impressed for the Buccaneers, finishing 10-of-15 for 111 yards, rushing for a touchdown, and leading a pair of TD drives.

Daniels was back on the field in the third quarter on Saturday and went a perfect 5-of-5 on his first drive, which he capped with a touchdown pass to tight end Ko Kieft.

Last week, undrafted rookie Ayden Garnes made a bid for Tampa's regular-season roster with an impressive pick-six. While this third-quarter play against the Chiefs didn't result in a defensive score, it was a clutch pass breakout that will certainly look good on Garnes' preseason highlight reel.

The Patriots took a17-14 lead over the Eagles early in the fourth quarter on Lan Larison's two-yard touchdown run. Larison, a 2025 undrafted free agent out of UC Davis, spent last season on injured reserve after suffering a preseason foot injury.

Officially, the longest field goal in NFL history is the 68-yarder that Jacksonville's Cam Little nailed last November. On Saturday, however, Harrison Butker drilled a 69-yarder that may have been good from a yard or two further.

Of course, preseason kicks don't count, which is why Little doesn't own the record with the 70-yarder he made last preseason.

Sean Clifford is the fourth QB on Cincinnati's roster, while Noah Thomas is an undrafted rookie out of Georgia. There's a very real chance that neither player makes the Bengals' 53-player roster. However, the two looked like seasoned teammates on this impressive touchdown early in the third quarter.

A couple of years ago, Saquon Barkley nearly broke the internet with his blind, backwards hurdle over Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones during a regular-season game.

While this defender-jumping moment wasn't quite as impressive, new teammate Carson Steele did a reasonable impression of Barkley while leaping Patriots cornerback Brandon Crossley.

The Eagles capped a late second-quarter drive with this splendid catch-and-run through traffic by reserve wide receiver and special-teamer Britain Covey.

Tight end Tanner Hudson hauled in a six-yard touchdown pass just before halftime to extend Cincinnati's lead to 17-6. Hudson, who signed with the Bengals in 2022, is looking to earn a role at tight end alongside Drew Sample, Mike Gesicki, and Erick All Jr.

Fans don't see quarterbacks punt often, but teams will use their quarterbacks to punt on 4th down occasionally in an effort to catch opponents off guard.

On Saturday, rookie seventh-round pick Behren Morton booted one for the Patriots on 4th-and-16. In this case, New England was probably looking to evaluate Morton's skill set rather than catch the Eagles unawares.

2025 third-round pick Kyle Williams had some bright moments for the Patriots last season, finishing with 209 yards and three touchdowns. New England hopes that it will see more plays like this one from the Washington State product in Year 2.

Former Miami edge-rusher Rueben Bain Jr. was knocked for having short arms during the predraft process and fell to the Buccaneers at No. 15. Of course, if Bain can simply move blockers out of his way as he did on this play, his arm length isn't going to matter much.

The Bengals aren't exactly hurting for receiver help, though they could use more established depth behind Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Andrei Iosivas. Well, rookie fourth-round pick Colbie Young made his presence felt with this beautiful touchdown grab late in the second quarter.

The Chiefs grabbed Oklahoma edge-defender R Mason Thomas in the second round in an effort to add some depth to their defensive front. Thomas showed his big-play ability against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by shooting into the passing lane and knocking the ball away on third down.

Though the Bears have a deep receiving corps headlined by Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, and Kalif Raymond, they may have to make room for 2025 undrafted free agent Jahdae Walker. The Texas A&M product made one of Saturday's best catches with this impressive grab near the sideline.

If all goes according to plan, the Patriots won't need to play backup quarterback Tommy DeVito in any meaningful capacity in the regular season. If the former Giants standout is forced to replace Drake Maye for any length of time, though, Josh McDaniels may want to dial up a few designed runs.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles finally got on the board with this run by Will Shipley. The five-yard score capped a methodical 15-play, 77-yard drive that took up nearly seven minutes of the second quarter.

The Eagles added several new receivers this offseason—including Marquise Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon—before trading away A.J. Brown. While the new faces are worth tracking, fans might want to keep an eye on 2025 undrafted free agent Darius Cooper, who cut through the New England Patriots defense for a 25-yard gain.

Cooper appeared in 13 games and caught nine passes while contributing on special teams last season.

Justin Fields got the start at quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night. However, Patrick Mahomes went through pregame warmups and looked about as healthy and loose as he possibly could at this point in his recovery from last year's torn ACL.

Mahomes was cleared to return in time for training camp and is widely expected to start in Week 1.

Bengals backup quarterback Josh Johnson turned 40 in May, but he showed Chicago's defense on Sunday that he can still chew up yards on the ground. This run helped set up a field goal on Cincinnati's opening drive.

Ideally, the Bengals won't see Johnson on the field in the regular season. Joe Burrow is healthy heading into the year, and Joe Flacco is also on Cincinnati's roster.

Will Shipley got the start at running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, and the 2024 fourth-round pick ripped off a big run early in the first quarter. As noted by Devin Jackson of The Philadelphia Inquirer, rookie third-round pick Markel Bell had a hand in springing Shipley.

Caleb Williams didn't start last week's preseason opener for the Chicago Bears. However, he started on Saturday against the Cincinnati Bengals and hooked up with fellow 2024 first-round pick Rome Odunze for an 18-yard gain on his first throw of the night.

Los Angeles continues to pull away from the Saints, and running back Jarquez Hunter is the latest Rams player to find the end zone.

A 2025 fourth-round pick out of Auburn, Hunter appeared in only five games as a rookie and played exclusively on special teams.

The Pittsburgh Steelers had their Week 2 preseason game on Friday—a 17-0 loss to the New York Jets—but they managed to make a bit of news on Saturday evening.

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers plan to keep both rookie quarterback Drew Allar and second-year quarterback Will Howard on their 53-player roster after August 30 cuts.

With Aaron Rodgers entrenched as the starter, that leaves Mason Rudolph as the odd man out (or on the practice squad) unless Pittsburgh opts to keep four quarterbacks on its active roster.

The Saints were threatening to get on the scoreboard, but were turned away on 2nd-and-goal. Undrafted Rams rookie Wesley Bailey knocked the ball away from Ty Chandler, and Payton Zdroik's recovery gave possession to L.A.

It was the second huge play of the day for Bailey, who recorded a sack in the first half. The Louisville product is quickly becoming a strong candidate for the regular-season roster.

Looking to erase a 27-point deficit, Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler dumped it to undrafted rookie CJ Donaldson and let him do the rest. The Ohio State product powered through one tackle attempt and powered his way downfield before fumbling out of bounds at the 8-yard line.

Saints backup Zach Wilson had a tough time in the first half, going 6-of-12 for only 55 yards with an interception.

Spencer Rattler, who made eight starts for New Orleans last season, got the Saints into scoring position to start the second half but made a critical mistake of his own. Rams safety Alex Cook capitalized by stepped in front of the receiver to snag the ball on the move and return it the length of the field for a pick-six.

The Falcons rolled over the Colts in a lopsided 34-6 victory in the early afternoon. However, the game didn't involve either of the two Atlanta quarterbacks who are "competing" for the starting job.

Free-agent addition Tua Tagovailoa has, to this point, led the competition by default, as Michael Penix Jr. has been recovering from a torn ACL. However, the complexion of the race is set to change on Sunday.

According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, Penix has been cleared for 11-on-11 drills and will practice on Monday.

With the Giants looking to extend their lead, Calvin Austin III helped make it happen. With less than 30 seconds on the clock, Jameis Winston found Austin on 3rd-and-14 and watched the receiver take it to the Dolphins' 22-yard line.

A few plays later, Dominic Zvada made it 20-3 with a 32-yard field goal.

There will be no shutout in Miami today. Kicker Riley Patterson got the Dolphins on the scoreboard with a 53-yard field goal.

Patterson made seven of 13 attempts from 50 yards or beyond last season and, for those interested, tied for 17th in fantasy scoring among kickers.

Stetson Bennett isn't going to see the field often for the Rams as long as Matthew Stafford remains healthy. However, L.A. might have to consider giving the Georgia product some red-zone opportunities. He has now gashed the Saints defense for two rushing touchdowns, the second coming from eight yards out.

Devin Singletary made his case for a role in New York's committee backfield with this nimble run for a touchdown from 13 yards out.

Odell Beckham Jr. is hoping to stick with the Giants as a complementary receiver in 2026. At 33, he isn't the breakaway deep threat that he once was, but he showed that he's still got some nifty after-the-catch moves against the Dolphins.

The Rams know that reigning MVP Matthew Stafford will be their starting quarterback in 2026. However, they're allowing Stetson Bennett and rookie first-round pick Ty Simpson to battle for the backup gig. On Saturday, Bennett scored the first touchdown of the game by running it in himself.

The Giants scored on their opening drive and were threatening to score on their third. However, running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. had the ball slip out of his hands following the handoff, giving Miami's defense an easy red-zone takeaway.

Tracy is competing for playing time in a backfield that also features Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary, and recent free-agent addition Najee Harris. Mistakes like this one won't lead to increased opportunities.

Shortly after Rams undrafted rookie Wesley Bailey recorded a sack on New Orleans Saints quarterback Zach Wilson, another undrafted rookie made his bid for the active roster. Al'zillion "AZ" Hamilton made an early break on the ball to secure the diving interception.

Hamilton recorded eight interceptions over his last three seasons at Fresno State.

After trading for Myles Garrett and with Aaron Donald widely expected to make an NFL return, the Los Angeles Rams figure to have one of the league's better pass rushes in 2026. They may have a deep rotation, too.

The undrafted Louisville product Wesley Bailey has been a standout during training camp and has even seen some first-team reps, according to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire. On Saturday, Bailey notched this first-quarter sack of Zach Wilson.

Bills third-stringer Shane Buechele already made Saturday's highlight reel once, with a long touchdown throw to Ja'Mori Maclin. He decided to run it in himself for touchdown No. 2, as the Bills continue to pour it on against the Browns.

Dolphins fans will have to familiarize themselves with several new players in 2026. Rookie fifth-round pick Kevin Coleman Jr. is one they may become familiar with rather quickly.

The Missouri product is competing with Malik Washington for playing time in the slot and certainly helped his case with this leaping grab on a throw from Cam Miller.

Even in the preseason, Jameis Winston rarely fails to entertain. The New York Giants' backup got the start against the Miami Dolphins and capped his opening drive by calling his own number in the red zone.

Shedeur Sanders may have gained some ground in Cleveland's QB competition on Saturday. Aside from a tipped interception that was thrown slightly behind, he looked sharp while working primarily with and against backups.

Deshaun Watson had a chance to state his case after Sanders exited, but may actually be hurting his case. While Sanders' pick came after a slightly off-target throw, Watson's was high and into double-coverage.

Te'Cory Couch snagged the INT, and Buffalo scored on its ensuing drive.

The Bills are pulling away from the Browns. Shane Buechele and Ja'Mori Maclin may have just provided an insurmountable lead. Buechele hit Maclin in stride, and the undrafted rookie out of Kentucky did the rest.

The touchdown came after Cleveland's second interception of the day.

The Seattle Seahawks are set to wrap Week 2 of the preseason against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday evening. On Saturday, the Seahawks placed wide receiver Jake Bobo on season-ending injured reserve.

Bobo, who suffered a knee injury during joint practices with the Titans on Friday, logged 34 catches for 323 yards in his first three seasons with Seattle.

Safety Damar Hamlin continues to make plays. After experiencing life-threatening cardiac arrest on the field three years ago, he's been a contributor in the Bills' secondary and on special teams.

Kyle Allen is in Cleveland tossing dimes. He's completed 10 out of 12 pass attempts for 128 yards, including a beauty to Ja'Mori Maclin. A couple of plays later, Allen connected with Mecole Hardman for a touchdown.

Between 2019 and 2020, Allen started in 16 games with the Carolina Panthers and Washington Football Team. In 34 contests (19 starts), he's thrown for 4,753 yards, 26 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. The 30-year-old may have a long career as a high-end backup.

Critics will make the case that Shedeur Sanders needed to put the ball ahead of tight end Jermaine Terry, and it was a little behind him. But as the old adage goes, if the ball hits your hands, you should reel it in.

Up until this point, Sanders has played well; that was his first incompletion of the game.

In the Baltimore Ravens' preseason opener, Joe Fagnano threw for 224 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Thus far, he's avoided turnovers and been efficient, going 7-of-10 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown.

Fagnano put some zip on a pass to get it over a defender to wideout LaJohntay Wester for the first touchdown of the game between the Ravens and Minnesota Vikings.

In the first half, the Falcons averaged 4.8 yards per carry, thanks in large part to Tyler Goodson's 49-yard touchdown run. Undrafted rookie quarterback Jack Strand saw an open lane and took a 16-yard run to the end zone. 

Keep in mind that Michael Penix Jr. is still recovering from offseason knee surgery. With Tua Tagovailoa likely to start, Strand is battling Cooper Rush for a backup position.

Falcons running backs Tyler Goodson and Nathan Carter have scored on the ground. Undrafted rookie Cash Jones leaked out of the backfield and reached the pylon on a 13-yard touchdown reception.

Atlanta's backup tailbacks are having a solid outing, scoring all of the team's touchdowns. They're trying to make it difficult to sort out the pecking order behind Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson.

Shedeur Sanders had the best possible start on his first drive. He went 4-of-4 passing for 43 yards and a touchdown, finding wide receiver Luke Floriea open in the end zone.

The Browns' offensive line also deserves credit for creating a clean pocket and giving Sanders time to deliver a wide-open throw to the end zone. 

The Browns' quarterback battle isn't over.

Bills quarterback Kyle Allen picked up a big gain on a 17-yard pass to Trent Sherfield, and Browns cornerback Tre Avery drew a pass interference penalty to put Buffalo in a good position to score on its first drive.

Ray Davis crossed the goal line to get this game back on track after a lightning delay. He could see a bigger role if fellow backup running back Ty Johnson misses extended time because of a lower-body injury.

Detroit signed Trayveon Williams a couple of days after their preseason opener. After six seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, he's bounced around the league, looking to find a stable career home.

With Isiah Pacheco dealing with an MCL sprain, the Lions may have more room for depth in their running back room. Williams has a made a solid first impression in game action, logging seven carries for 34 yards and a score through three quarters.

Coming out of UNLV, Jaden Bradley is a big target. The 6'4", 195-pounder only needed one hand to corral a deep ball over rookie fifth-rounder Keith Abney II. His wide catch radius on full display.

In the first quarter, Tyler Goodson reached paydirt on a 49-yard run. In a competition for the No. 3 running back position, Nathan Carter finished a second-quarter drive with a score.

As a rookie, Carter logged just nine carries for 60 yards and played 26 percent of the snaps on special teams. Under a new coaching regime, he could push for a slightly bigger role on offense as well as kick and punt coverage duties.

J.J. McCarthy would probably like to have this one back. After a highlight throw to wideout Tai Felton, he failed to finish the drive on a routine toss to Myles Price in the end zone. As a result, the Vikings turned the ball over on downs.

McCarthy has struggled with his accuracy. He only completed 57.6 percent of his passes in 10 starts last season. That's one reason Minnesota signed Kyler Murray.

Tyler Goodson played three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. The Atlanta Falcons signed him early in free agency. Against his former team, the 25-year-old is pushing for a spot behind Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson in the Falcons' backfield. 

Last week, Goodson led the Falcons with 28 rushing yards. He's well on his way to leading the team on the ground again. 

J.J. McCarthy lost the battle for the starting quarterback job, but he's in a position to secure the primary backup spot, which is noteworthy because of Kyler Murray's recent injury history.

Murray has played through one full season in the previous five years. McCarthy could see the field at some point this year. If he's able to make more plays like this, the Vikings could win games with their top two quarterbacks.

After allowing edge-rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad to walk in free agency, the Lions need someone other than Aidan Hutchinson to generate a pass rush. Rookie sixth-rounder Skyler Gill-Howard rushed Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman like he could be that guy.

Last week, against the Cincinnati Bengals, Gill-Howard recorded two quarterback hits. He finished this play with a strip sack, building on his offseason buzz.

It's pouring rain in Cleveland, and there's also lightning. 

If you're going to be the Browns' starting quarterback, you'll need to perform in all types of weather conditions.

Minutes away from kickoff, Shedeur Sanders gets loose for his preseason start against the Buffalo Bills. 

It'll either be his time to shine, or Deshaun Watson will gain a stronghold on the lead for Cleveland's starting quarterback job.

After two turnovers, Joshua Dobbs showcased his wheels on a long touchdown run. As a journeyman quarterback, he's shown off his athleticism at previous career stops. 

If called upon to fill in for pocket-passing signal-caller Jared Goff, the 31-year-old offers a different skill set that can turn dead-end plays into big gains.

In two drives, Joshua Dobbs has lost a fumble and thrown an interception. Detroit signed him early in training camp. He's in competition with undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer for the primary backup role and off to a rough start.

Well, it didn't take long for the Commanders' starting defense to show improvement from last week. Cornerback Amik Robertson jarred the ball loose, and outside linebacker Joshua Josephs recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown.

As cornerback Trey Amos nurses an ankle injury, Robertson will be a key contributor in the Commanders' secondary.

Jaylin Lane is one of a few wide receivers jockeying for position behind Terry McLaurin and free-agent acquisition Stefon Diggs on the Commanders' receiver depth chart. 

Washington's No. 3 receiver spot is wide open, and Lane should have opportunities to fill that role.

Ja'Kobi Lane's preseason debut lived up to the hype. He hauled in three passes for 38 yards and a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles and looked every bit of a starting wide receiver.

Last week, Browns head coach Todd Monken praised Deshaun Watson, who went 11-of-15 passing for 126 yards against the Chicago Bears. Shedeur Sanders completed six out of 11 pass attempts for 79 yards and an interception.

While on 92.3 The Fan, Monken suggested that he'll make a decision on QB1 early next week. Sanders can make up ground on Watson in his start against the Buffalo Bills.
