'No F--king Way,' Dana White 'Can't Afford' to Do UFC White House Again & Calls Out Weather Concerns
UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on Sunday will be an event that fans remember for quite some time, and they likely won't see anything like it again.
During the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White definitively declared that he won't hold another event at the White House or outdoors at all, citing financial and weather concerns.
"I can't afford it. There's no f--king way we can do this again," White said at the 9:00 mark. "I'll never do the Sphere again, and we'll never do this again."
White added that he and President Donald Trump had discussed doing a fight for troops on a military base, but he had to request more time before putting that together.
"He wanted to do it this year," White said, per ESPN's Michael Rothstein. "And I said, sir, I need a year to recover financially."
White had long resisted holding outdoor UFC events, and Freedom 250 reminded him why. The showcase was delayed due to inclement weather in the Washington, D.C, area on Sunday night.
"No, sir," White said bluntly when asked about considering more outdoor events in the future, per Drake Riggs of Uncrowned. "I don't ever want to be f--king outside ever again. There's just too much leading up to the fight you just have to sweat. Unless you're in, like, Abu Dhabi, when we did it before — I could be the weatherman in Abu Dhabi and I'd be right all the time."
Despite White's disdain for outdoor events, the fighters at Freedom 250 didn't mind competing in the open air.
"The breeze was really nice," new undisputed UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje said.
"I loved it. Awesome," middleweight contender Bo Nickal echoed.
Still, those responses weren't enough to convince White to pursue outdoor venues for future events.
"You liked it? Everybody liked it?" White responded. "Still no."
He added: "When you're doing events like we do, there's enough things you have to worry about. What I always try to do is create the best experience possible for the fans. And if we have to worry about weather and all the things that come along with being outside, I just don't like it."
