Indy 500 2026 Results, Top Finishers, Video of Photo Finish in Historic 110th Edition of Race
Weather delays, thrilling restarts with four laps and just more than one lap remaining, and a loaded field weren't enough to stop Felix Rosenqvist on Sunday.
And that's why he is the 2026 Indianapolis 500 champion.
Rosenqvist made a stunning pass of David Malukas right before the finish line to claim triumph at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday. It was the 110th edition of the Indianapolis 500, and Rosenqvist is the one who got to kiss the bricks after the closest margin in the historic race's history.

His late pass came after Marcus Armstrong jumped to the lead with four laps remaining, but another yellow flag set the stage for the final reset. And that is all Rosenqvist needed to secure glory by .0233 seconds.
Here is a look at the top finishers, while the full results can be found on Indy Car's official website:
| Driver | Difference |
| Felix Rosenqvist | -- |
| David Malukas | 0.0233 |
| Scott McLaughlin | 0.4205 |
| Pato O'Ward | 0.4271 |
| Marcus Armstrong | 0.4360 |
While Rosenqvist emerged as the winner, Álex Palou or the field seemed like one of the most pressing questions coming into the race.
After all, Palou earned pole position as he looked to defend last year's Indy 500 title and continue an incredible stretch that has seen him win four of the past five series championships. Sunday was a chance for him to become the seventh driver to take home back-to-back titles in the famed race.
One of those seven drivers is Josef Newgarden, who won in 2023 and 2024 and was once again in this year's loaded field that included nine former Indy 500 champions.
Helio Castroneves, Takuma Sato, Scott Dixon, Marcus Ericsson, Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi have also won in the past, and Rossi joined Palou on Row 1 as the No. 2 starter in Sunday's edition.
He and Palou traded the lead in the early going before the first major development when Ryan Hunter-Reay spun and Katherine Legge was unable to avoid the contact as her Indy 500 and Coke 600 double attempt ended early.
That was just the start, as Ed Carpenter, Power and, most notably, Rossi also saw their races come to an early end for various reasons.
One of the biggest developments in the first half of the race was Dixon seizing the lead and carrying it past the 100th lap. That was the halfway point that made the race official should it be called, which was all the more notable when there was a red-flag delay for rain after 105 laps.
However, the delay was brief, and Dixon fell back as Palou and Malukas battled for the lead following the restart.
With so many restarts and looming weather, it only dialed up the urgency and aggressive moves among the leaders. Scott McLaughlin, Palou and Malukas all traded the lead as they pushed the pace perhaps earlier than expected due to the weather threat and possibility of the race being called before the full 200 laps.
The concerns about more cautions led to different pitting strategies, which allowed O'Ward and Rosenqvist to put themselves in position behind Malukas, Palou and McLaughlin knowing that trio would have to stop an additional time in the final stretch.
It seemed as if it was Rosenqvist's race to lose when he took the lead over O'Ward with 15 laps remaining, but a fiery crash for Caio Collet led to yet another red flag before the dramatic finish.
And it ended up being a historic finish after all of that.
