Dae'Quan Wright Comments on LSU Return After Gaining NCAA Eligibility Following Browns Stint

On Thursday, a Louisiana judge issued a preliminary injunction against the NCAA that will allow LSU to field former professional players on its roster, though more legal actions are certainly incoming.

Following that ruling, Dae'Quan Wright—who will return to LSU after being cut by the Cleveland Browns—commented on the matter:

Wright also said he not only expects to be on LSU's roster but also is planning to play against Clemson.

The SEC unsurprisingly said in a statement that it disagreed with the court's ruling:

The 22-year-old tight end spent the 2024-25 seasons at Ole Miss with Lane Kiffin before his eligibility, under the NCAA's former rules, expired. He was an undrafted free agent who first signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and later the Browns, even suiting up for a preseason game with Cleveland, though he didn't play.

He was also released in Cleveland.

Now all eyes in the college world turn to LSU, with every Power 4 conference saying that any athlete who previously signed a professional contract was banned from being on a roster and playing (a temporary restraining order in Louisiana currently prohibits the SEC from employing such a rule, though the conference filed a lawsuit against LSU on Thursday).

The stage is set for even more legal battles, in other words, but Wright and athletes like him got a win in the courts on Thursday.
