
Rose Lavelle, Naomi Girma Score as USWNT Defeats Japan to Cap Off 3-Game Series
The United States women's national soccer team defeated Japan 3-0 on Friday in Commerce City, Colorado to cap their three-match series.
The Americans scored three goals within 17 minutes early in the second half.
Naomi Girma put the United States on the board in the 47th minute with a header. Kennedy Wesley assisted the goal with a header of her own off a looping Rose Lavelle corner.

Lavelle then added a goal nine minutes later for the 2-0 lead after Trinity Rodman secured the ball at midfield and found her teammate with a great through ball. Lavelle broke free past Japan's defense and finished a fantastic run with the goal.
Wesley scored the United States' third goal off of a great corner kick from Jaedyn Shaw.
The United States held possession for over 65 percent of the match, had seven shots on goal and 15 shot attempts overall compared to Japan's three shots on goal and five overall attempts.
With the win, the United States secured a 2-1 series win over Japan.
The U.S. defeated Japan 2-1 last Saturday in San Jose to begin the series. Rose Lavelle scored a goal in the ninth minute and assisted on Lindsey Heaps' 48th-minute goal. Riko Ueki scored in the 61st minute for Japan.
Japan then beat the United States 1-0 on Tuesday in Seattle. Maika Hamano scored in the 27th minute. With the victory, Japan broke the United States' 10-match win streak. The U.S. was also shut out for the first time in 42 matches.
