WWE Rumors on Nikki Bella's Injury, Gunther, Rey Mysterio and WrestleMania 42 Ticket Sales
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
Bella Injured on SmackDown
Nikki Bella teamed with sister Brie to beat Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair last Friday on SmackDown. After the match, Nia Jax and Lash Legend attacked the four combatants.
During the brawl, Jax rather gently throws Bella to the outside, where the referee began tending to her. She was also noticeably missing when the wrestlers all gathered back in the ring once Bayley and Lyra Valkyria made the save.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported that Bella suffered an ankle injury.
"The belief among those we spoke with is that Bella rolled her left ankle during an exchange with Charlotte Flair," Johnson reported. "She was checked out backstage after the segment but we have not heard about the severity of the issue."
For now, there isn't a women's tag team title match on the WrestleMania 42 card. That's likely to change when WWE still has plenty of space in the two-night event.
A Triple Threat match is a plausible plan based on what happened on SmackDown. If Bella is genuinely injured, that could clear a path for Bliss and Flair to challenge for the belts.
Gunther Originally Tabbed to Battle Another Legend at WrestleMania
Gunther is claiming Randy Orton's old "Legend Killer" moniker for himself after having sent John Cena and then AJ Styles into retirement. In the creative team's original vision, he may have added to the list at WrestleMania.
According to Alvarez (via Ringside News' Felix Upton), WWE tentatively lined up a match between Gunther and Rey Mysterio. With Mysterio recovering from a rib injury, he might be out of the WrestleMania picture entirely.
That leaves Gunther in a bit of limbo.
Both men's world title matches are set. Brock Lesnar has a WrestleMania opponent with Oba Femi. Another big non-title bout was confirmed on SmackDown as Jacob Fatu will battle Drew McIntyre.
Leaving Gunther off the biggest show of the year wouldn't be ideal, but throwing him into a match just to have him on the card wouldn't achieve much, either.
WrestleMania 42 Attendance Likely to Approach Last Year's Numbers
With ticket sales reportedly lower than expected in the buildup to WrestleMania 42, WWE began offering discounts in recent weeks.
Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter the company wants to have Allegiant Stadium full for both nights, hence making cheaper tickets available. The strategy is likely to achieve its goal.
"Right now after the latest sale, WrestleMania in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium has 39,866 for 4/18 and 41,330 for 4/19," Meltzer said. "They are 13.3 percent behind last year, which is closer than the 18 percent behind they were doing before the two major sales. In the end, they'll have 50,000 or more in and will announce a number that is about the same if not slightly bigger than last year."
The Las Vegas Stadium Authority said 58,538 fans were on hand for the first night of WrestleMania 41, with 60,103 coming through the turnstiles on Night 2.
While the headlines around tickets sales haven't inspired a lot of positive discourse, that will be eventually forgotten over time. As long as the atmosphere in Las Vegas is electric, how much tickets cost and how many were purchased will be footnotes for WrestleMania 42.
