WWE Unreal on Netflix Top Moments, Reaction for Seth Rollins Injury, R-Truth and More

Mike ChiariJan 20, 2026

The second season of the Netflix reality series WWE Unreal dropped Tuesday, featuring some of the biggest backstage happenings in WWE over the past several months, including Seth Rollins' worked knee injury.

Rollins' fake injury and subsequent Money in the Bank contract cash-in were central parts of WWE Unreal Season 2, as viewers got to see the inner workings of how the idea and execution came together.

During a match against LA Knight at Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12, Rollins appeared to tweak his knee, leading to him and Knight quickly going to the finish. Knight won the match, but in the moment, it looked like an audible was called.

However, that was always the plan laid out by the creative team, and Knight was praised for selling it in such a way that it came off as real:

In the weeks that followed that moment, there was a ton of online conjecture about whether the injury was real or not, but all of the questions were answered at SummerSlam when Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on CM Punk after Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther.

Rollins, WWE head of creative Triple H and others appeared happy with the way everything played out, and Rollins' wife, fellow WWE Superstar Becky Lynch, seemed to revel in the idea that Seth successfully worked a portion of the WWE Universe.

While those within WWE were satisfied, that wasn't necessarily the case for everyone who watched the show, as a common theme among fans who commented on social media was the belief that WWE Unreal made the company look bad from a creative perspective:

The Rollins injury saga focused on the creative aspect of WWE, but another captivating part of WWE Unreal Season 2 involved R-Truth and his real-life contract situation.

Shortly before Money in the Bank in June, Truth was informed that his WWE contract was not being renewed, which prompted him to post on X that he was getting released:

Upset by the news, fans chanted for Truth at subsequent WWE events, leading to his surprise return in the main event of Money in the Bank when he confronted John Cena, which allowed Cody Rhodes to pin him in a tag team match.

On WWE Unreal, the particulars of WWE's about-face regarding Truth were explored, as it was noted that they were far apart in contract negotiations, which prompted WWE to make the decision to let his deal lapse.

However, Triple H said his contract never actually expired by the time he was back on WWE programming at Money in the Bank.

Triple H expressed his appreciation for Truth and his happiness over the fact that the two sides were able to reach an agreement, while Truth's peers such as Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley gave their thoughts on how the locker room felt from the time Truth was seemingly gone until the time when he returned:

Several other notable events were also part of WWE Unreal Season 2, including Lynch's return, Naomi's Money in the Bank cash-in at Evolution, Chelsea Green suffering a broken nose against Zelina Vega, Penta's rise to stardom, the formation of The Vision, Pat McAfee's Backlash match against Gunther and Jelly Roll's in-ring debut at SummerSlam.

Celebrity involvement has long been a significant part of WWE's product and success, and both McAfee and Jelly Roll fit into that category.

While McAfee has become part of the WWE family as a commentator and part-time wrestler, he is better known for his work outside of WWE.

McAfee's preparations for his match against Gunther were show in WWE Unreal, as was the praise he received from Triple H and John Cena for his performance:

The same goes for Jelly Roll, who did a ton of training and lost significant weight leading up to him tagging with Randy Orton against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul.

Orton is a longtime veteran and a legendary performer who isn't easily impressed, but he described how blown away he was by Jelly Roll's commitment and successful transition into the world of pro wrestling:

Season 2 of WWE Unreal built upon the foundation that was laid in Season 1, and it appears the series is far from over.

At the conclusion of Season 2, WWE and Netflix touted the upcoming Season 3, which will debut some time during summer 2026.

Given WWE's working relationship with Netflix via Monday Night Raw and the fact that cameras are always present and rolling in WWE regardless, it is easy to understand why WWE Unreal has the potential to be a long-term staple.
