CM Punk retained the World Heavyweight Championship in a hard-hitting match against Bron Breakker on Monday night's episode of Raw, leading to rumors and speculation about his health.
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported this week that a source told him a WWE Superstar was placed in concussion protocol coming out of Raw.
Alvarez went on to opine that it could have been Punk who was placed in concussion protocol because of a rough bump he took while diving outside the ring.
However, PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson followed up by reporting that prior reports of Punk being placed in concussion protocol were "entirely incorrect."
If Punk did indeed come away from Monday's match relatively unscathed, it is great news from WWE's perspective since the company is about to embark on a hugely important time of the year.
Royal Rumble is just a few weeks away, and while Punk may not be in the men's Royal Rumble match since he is a reigning champion, he could conceivably be part of the undercard in the form of defending his title.
With Royal Rumble marking the start of the road to WrestleMania, having a star like Punk healthy and available is of the utmost importance, and it sounds as though WWE may have lucked out in that regard.
Breakker Reportedly Medically Cleared After Loss vs. Punk
Despite the physicality of his World Heavyweight Championship match against Punk this week on Raw, Breakker reportedly avoided any notable injuries.
According to Alvarez (h/t F4WOnline's Bryan Rose), Breakker was checked out and cleared by the WWE medical team after Raw.
In what was the biggest match of his career to date, Breakker challenged Punk for the world title on Raw, and he came close to winning it on multiple occasions.
Punk ultimately weathered the storm and prevailed, but Breakker proved his worth as a long-term main eventer and showed why a world title reign is likely in his immediate future.
Breakker's potential has been apparent ever since he made his televised debut in NXT in 2021, and he has passed essentially every test placed in front of him since then.
Proving he was on the same level as Punk was arguably Breakker's biggest challenge yet, but he was more than up for it.
With Breakker coming out of Raw not much worse for wear, it potentially puts him in position to participate in and win the men's Royal Rumble match.
Breakker will undoubtedly be among the most popular choices to win it if he is part of the match, and his showing against Punk gives him plenty of momentum as he heads toward it.
Reported Details on Vaquer's Injury, Title Reign
Despite wearing a walking boot on Monday night's episode of Raw, Stephanie Vaquer's status as women's world champion is reportedly not expected to be impacted.
According to PWInsider.com (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), Vaquer is dealing with an injury, but it is not expected to be a long-term issue, and it will not require her to vacate her title.
That report comes on the heels of Fightful Select (h/t Upton) reporting that Vaquer had suffered a "legit" injury. Fightful did not offer any details on the nature or severity of the injury, but PWInsider's report suggests it isn't much cause for concern.
Last week on Raw, Vaquer won a Triple Threat match against Raquel Rodriguez and Nikki Bella to retain the women's world title.
This week, she made her way to the ring wearing a walking boot and subsequently cut a promo. After the promo, Vaquer was attacked by Rodriguez, and Raquel focused her attack on La Primera's injured foot or ankle.
That attack angle potentially could have been a means of writing Vaquer off television for a short amount of time until she is completely cleared from the injury.
Regardless, it likely set the stage for a singles match between Vaquer and Rodriguez for the Women's World Championship, perhaps as soon as Royal Rumble at the end of the month.
