Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
One week after the unplanned title change for the NXT North American women's title, new details about the situation involving Blake Monroe and Thea Hail continue to come out.
Per Fightful Select (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Monroe told people backstage after the match that she was injured on the senton spot that left her unable to kick out as originally planned.
The report also notes that Monroe and people who work directly on her creative "weren't happy" about the situation.
Fightful Select previously reported the surprise title change forced a "backstage scramble" to adjust the creative plans going forward. It has since been announced that Monroe will get her rematch with Hail at NXT: New Year's Evil on Jan. 6.
Given how much discussion there has been around the botched finish and creative plans that were already in place, it wouldn't be a surprise if Monroe won back the championship.
Of course, Hail's win—and the positive reaction from the crowd in attendance—could create an opening for her to get an extended run with the title to raise her profile.
WWE Won't Clear Jerry Lawler for Final Match
If Jerry Lawler is able to have one more match, it won't happen at a WWE event.
Per Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select (h/t H Jenkins of Ringside News), there is a "zero percent chance" WWE would medically clear Lawler to wrestle.
During a recent appearance on Action News 5 in Memphis (starts at 4:30 mark), Lawler said he has "one more match in there somewhere."
It's entirely plausible that Lawler wasn't speaking literally about being able to wrestle one final time. The WWE Hall of Famer is still in the process of recovering from a minor stroke he had in September.
Lawler has had at least three strokes since 2018, including one in 2023 that was described as "massive."
Lawler, who turned 76 on Nov. 29, last wrestled in October 2022 when he defeated Erick Redbeard at WCPBTW The Great Fall Bash.
Given how many health issues Lawler has had, combined with his age, it's hard to imagine any of the major national wrestling promotions giving him medical clearance to go through with another match even if he is able to get himself physically capable of having one.
Lawler remains under contract to WWE on a legends deal, so he can still make money from the promotion even without being able to step in a ring as a superstar again.
WWE Happy with Omos in AAA
Despite not being on WWE television since April 2024, Omos is earning praise from the company for his appearances in AAA.
Per Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), WWE has been "happy with the reception" to Omos appearing in the Mexico-based promotion.
Omos most recently made a surprise showing at the AAA Guerra de Titanes show on Dec. 20 when he helped Vikingo defeat Dragon Lee. After the bout, Dorian Roldán came out to join the stable with Omos and Vikingo.
The appearance marked Omos' second showing at a AAA show. He was a surprise entrant in the Copa Bardahl at TripleMania XXXIII in August and won the match by last eliminating La Parka.
Fightful's report did add that WWE had no explanation when asked why Omos hasn't been used on its television.
Omos' last WWE television appearance was as an entrant in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the go-home SmackDown prior to WrestleMania 40. The Giant did work three NXT house shows in October, including wrestling Oba Femi to a no-contest in one bout.
