The preseason poll will be released on Thursday and then updated each of the next 17 weeks after the first games are played.

Each FBS coach will provide a list of the 25 teams that they believe to be the best in the nation. The first-place team on each coach's rankings will receive 25 points. For every spot after, one point will be taken off. For example, second-place will be awarded 24 points, and third will get 23. The last team on each list will receive one point.

With defending national champion Ohio State's bevy of talent, especially at quarterback, there's little reason to think anyone else has a more highly touted side going into the season. The most well-rounded team in the nation, Ohio State should not experience any sort of offensive slump, as quarterbacks Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett are both capable of starting if their counterpart struggles.

They also have one of the best defenses in the nation led by defensive end Joey Bosa, who recorded 13.5 sacks in his sophomore campaign, according to ESPN.com.

Teams with explosive offenses, like Baylor and Oregon, are sure to light up opposing defenses and the rankings. But defense wins championships, and that will be the case yet again as SEC sides like Alabama and Ole Miss will force their way into the conversation with brute strength and playmaking ability.
