Roman Reigns' WWE Title Reign Kicks Off With Perfect Feud
Giulia is no longer the women's United States champion after losing to Chelsea Green last Friday on SmackDown. The match lasted fewer than two minutes with Green rolling up Giulia and using the ropes for leverage to get the surprise pinfall.
Giulia held the U.S. title for 133 days, but her reign wasn't all that remarkable. Dropping the belt on SmackDown in such quick fashion did her few favors as well.
According to Cory Hays of BodySlam.net, the WWE creative team might have a bigger vision for the 31-year-old. He reported that "the plan weeks ago was for her to enter the main event scene."
The obvious question is how the last few months positioned Giulia to make that step up.
One advantage for WWE is that fans can quickly view a wrestler as a "star" if they're presented as one. A not insignificant portion of the WWE Universe is also familiar with Giulia's work before joining the company, and they're eagerly awaiting the moment when she's treated like a main event talent.
Copeland 'Never' an Option for Cena Send-Off Tournament
WWE announced John Cena is holding a "The Last Time Is Now Tournament" to determine the opponent for his final match. The 17-time champion teased the 16-man field could include wrestlers not signed with WWE.
That left fans wondering whether a legend from Cena's past could make a special appearance.
Don't expect to see him rekindle his rivalry with Adam Copeland.
Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp (via Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported that Copeland "has never been considered for John Cena's retirement run." The idea hasn't even reached a tentative discussion stage.
Given the 52-year-old's history with Cena, he'd make sense as a candidate to bring back for a quick cameo or tournament run. As long as he's signed to AEW, though, this is probably a nonstarter.
WWE to Pocket $6 Million from Las Vegas for WrestleMania
Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported last week the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority are voting to approve a $6 million payout to WWE for staging WrestleMania 42 in Sin City.
That's $1 million more than the company received for WrestleMania 41.
WWE has long touted the economic impact for the host city every year, and that effect is a little bigger with the company making the overall festivities a longer affair. Las Vegas held the SmackDown before WrestleMania and the first Raw after the annual spectacle, in addition NXT Stand & Deliver on the show's opening night.
Per Akers, the LVCVA estimated that WrestleMania 41 brought 124,000 combined fans to Allegiant Stadium and drew "over 140,000 incremental room nights in Las Vegas."
On any given weekend, there is no shortage of events happening in Las Vegas. The fact WWE is getting a $6 million sweetener for WrestleMania is a sign of how much more it boosts the Vegas tourism industry.
