Jonathan Kuminga is 'Halfway Out the Door' Says NBA Insider Despite Warriors Contract
Jonathan Kuminga agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract with the Golden State Warriors last month after months of back and forth, but his new deal reportedly all but confirms his commitment to the team.
According to ESPN's Zach Kram, Kuminga is already "halfway out the door."
Kuminga, a first-round draft pick by the Warriors in 2021, has already been non-committal about remaining in Golden State for the long term. When asked about staying with the Warriors past his current contract, Kuminga told reporters, "I'm here now," without elaborating any further.

But the Warriors have been similarly non-committal about keeping Kuminga around. The deal features a team option after the first year, and general manager Mike Dunleavy didn't rule out making a trade at some point this season.
"We feel like we have a player that can be really good," Dunleavy said. "I don't feel like there's a need to make a move. Now, we'll see how the season unfolds. This time last year, I would have said we need to get better. I don't feel that right now. It could change. We have a lot of guys in the team that have value around the league and could be traded, but I think the structure is more so what works for us and the player."
Kuminga has been a solid player for Golden State early in his career, but if he plans to leave on his own once his contract is up, the Warriors might be better off trading him before then to get something in return as they try to build for a future without star Stephen Curry.
