Jonathan Kuminga Non-Committal on Warriors Future After Contract, 'I'm Here Now'
While forward Jonathan Kuminga ended his longstanding impasse with the Golden State Warriors by agreeing to a two-year deal, it doesn't sound like he's expecting to stick around very long.
While speaking to reporters on Thursday, Kuminga was asked if he wants to stay with the Warriors long-term, and he was non-committal in his response, simply saying, "I'm here now."
After becoming a restricted free agent this offseason, Kuminga was embroiled in a lengthy stalemate with the Warriors for the entire summer. He was dissatisfied with the contract offers from Golden State before ultimately agreeing to a two-year, $48.5 million deal that includes a team option on the second season. The deal is designed to be easily movable when Kuminga becomes trade-eligible on Jan. 15.

"We feel like we have a player that can be really good," general manager Mike Dunleavy said after Kuminga agreed to his contract. "I don't feel like there's a need to make a move. Now, we'll see how the season unfolds. This time last year, I would have said we need to get better. I don't feel that right now. It could change. We have a lot of guys in the team that have value around the league and could be traded, but I think the structure is more so what works for us and the player."
Despite the offseason saga and the continued trade rumors, Kuminga told reporters on Thursday that he feels his teammates and coaches know he's committed to the Warriors. He added that he feels his game improved over the summer, which could make him a more attractive trade candidate during the season.
For now, Kuminga will be focused on trying to help Golden State establish itself as one of the elite teams in the Western Conference, but it remains to be seen if he's a part of the franchise's future.
