Jonathan Kuminga, Warriors Agree to 2-Year, $48.5M Contract Amid Trade Rumors

After months of failed negotiations, the Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga have finally ended their stalemate.

The Warriors and Kuminga agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract, Kuminga's agent Aaron Turner told ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday.

The deal includes "a team option designed for the contract to be ripped up and renegotiated next summer," according to Charania. The contract reportedly guarantees Kuminga about $15 million more than his qualifying offer would have for the 2025-26 season.

According to Charania, Kuminga chose this deal over an offer of $75 million over three years, giving the player "a higher level of control over his immediate future."

The deal ends a months-long impasse between the two sides and allows Golden State to officially sign the rest of its offseason additions.

Kuminga skipped the Warriors' media day and the first day of training camp amid the ongoing dispute. Golden State reportedly offered him deals of two years for $45 million and three years for $75.2 million, both of which included a team option in the final year. The 22-year-old was hoping to avoid a team option, and he would've been viewed as a trade candidate by the team ahead of next offseason.

Kuminga appeared in 47 games with 10 starts during the 2024-25 season, averaging 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. He averaged 15.3 points in eight postseason appearances and 20.8 points in the conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves after seeing more action when star guard Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury.

The Warriors and Kuminga will now move forward together after their summer saga, but it remains to be seen how long he will actually stick around in Golden State.
