Recaps
Ohio def. Kentucky, 7-0
Buoyed by aggressive base-running, excellent pitching, slick fielding and a few Kentucky throwing errors, Ohio rolled to a 7-0 win on Saturday.
Cash Jones pitched five innings, allowing just one hit and three walks and striking out four, while Jordan Malloy paced the offense with two runs scored.
Vermont def. New Hampshire, 9-8
This was a wild one.
Vermont defeated New Hampshire on Saturday, 9-8, in a game featuring five lead changes and an extra inning. Grayson Morgan's two-run single in the top of the seventh was the winning moment, while Will Hadaway closed out the game on the mound and earned the win.
Dylan Markey added a pair of RBI for Vermont, spoiling Ryan Colby's big game (one hit, two walks, four RBI) for New Hampshire.
Oklahoma def. New Mexico, 5-1
Have yourself a day, Jackson Timmerman.
The Oklahoma pitcher was dominant on Saturday, pitching all six innings while giving up just four hits, four walks and a run in his team's 5-1 win. On, and he struck out nine batters two, consistently befuddling New Mexico hitters.
Oklahoma reached base via eight hits and nine walks on the day, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead after the second inning that it wouldn't relinquish.
North Carolina def. Alabama
Cole McCarthy's two-run single and three RBI on Saturday paced North Carolina in its 3-2 win over Alabama.
Cameron Malone and Sawyer Jackson combined to give up just four hits, a walk and two runs in the win on the mound, striking out eight.
Massachusetts def. Maine, 15-0
The Massachusetts bats were en fuego on Saturday.
It took just three innings for Massachusetts to push 15 runs across the board against Maine, led by three-RBI games for Coleman Gouthro and Henry Kuka. Four players in total finished with two or more RBI, and Gouthro finished with three hits.
North Dakota def. Wisconsin, 3-2
Timely hitting and some fantastic pitching led North Dakota to a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin on Saturday.
Tanner Holman went 4.1 innings in the start, giving up just four hits, two walks and two runs while striking out seven. He was relieved by Charlie Mortensen, who didn't allow a baserunner in his 1.2 innings on the bump.
Texas West. def Mississippi, 1-0
John Hays' RBI single in the bottom of the second inning was all Texas West needed to beat Mississippi by a 1-0 margin on Saturday.
This one was a good old-fashioned pitching duel, with Tays Legrand earning the win after giving up just four hits, two walks and no runs in five innings, striking out seven. Lincoln Bosson would have been a deserving winner for Mississippi, giving up just one run, two hits and a walk in 4.1 innings, striking out seven.
But Legrand had the nasty stuff for Texas West, leading his team to the win.
South Dakota def. Missouri, 2-0
South Dakota scored a pair of runs in the second inning. It was more than enough for starting pitcher Murphy Seefeldt.
The South Dakota pitcher threw six innings, giving up just two hits and two walks in a 2-0 victory over Missouri. He struck out 10 batters in the process, completely dominating en route to the win.
Wyoming def. Montana, 11-4
Preston Stratton paced a huge offensive outburst for Wyoming on Saturday, finishing with two hits, four RBI and a run in his team's 11-4 win over Montana.
Jax Bruch added a pair of RBI, while Caden Ryall shut down the game on the mound, giving up no runs, two hits and a walk in 2.1 innings of relief.
Illinois def. Indiana, 4-3
Indiana was on the verge of striking first, although Illinois kept its opponents off the board with an impressive triple play in the top of the first inning.
While Indiana jumped out to a 3-0 lead through four innings, Illinois rallied for the win with RBI from Christian Gernot and Connor Lazar. Sean Bolger also contributed with a two-run double.
Connecticut def. New Jersey, 2-1
Both teams were tied 1-1 after six innings of action, but Connecticut took its second lead of the game due to an impressive RBI triple from SJ Taxiltaridis in the top of the seventh.
Luca Pellegrini put together a strong performance on the mound for Connecticut, striking out six batters without giving up an earned run in five innings of work.
New York def. Rhode Island, 18-0
New York recorded the most lopsided victory of the day, scoring 18 runs while Jeremy Katz, Kevin Moran and Lucas Kostas combined to pitch a shutout.
Rhode Island couldn’t stifle New York offensively, as nine different players were responsible for the team’s 15 hits.
New York held a 5-0 lead through four innings, but quickly put a victory for Rhode Island out of reach by scoring 13 runs over the final two frames.
North California def. Arizona, 5-1
The meeting between Northern California and Arizona didn’t feature explosive production at the plate right away, as both teams were scoreless through four innings.
Cannon Olmsted gave Arizona an early 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI double in the fifth, but the team ultimately wouldn’t be able to record another run for the rest of the game.
With the score tied 1-1 and the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning, Nolan Levinson gave Northern California a lead it wouldn’t relinquish with a bases-clearing triple.
Hawaii def. South California, 1-0
Hawaii’s victory over Southern California contained a pitching duel, as Bronson Fermahin’s first-inning RBI double resulted in the only run of the game.
Fermahin also started on the mound for Hawaii and racked up six strikeouts while allowing just three hits in 3.2 innings of work. Mason Mitani and Logan Brokaw also kept Southern California off the board as relief options.
