Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
Two of the biggest stars in the NXT women's division reportedly may be on the verge of getting called up to WWE's main roster.
Cory Hays of BodySlam.net reported that Stephanie Vaquer is expected to join Raw and Jordynne Grace is expected to move up to SmackDown.
While surprising to some that two of NXT's best may get called up at the same time, Hays noted that neither Vaquer nor Grace were "truly expected to be there long," in reference to NXT.
On Sunday at Battleground, Vaquer and Grace did battle with the NXT Women's Championship hanging in the balance. Grace came close on numerous occasions, but Vaquer managed to retain in what was arguably the match of the night.
After Vaquer's victory, she was confronted backstage by Fatal Influence member Jacy Jayne, who viciously slapped her across the face.
That led to a title match between Vaquer and Jayne on Tuesday night's episode of NXT, and the result was among the most shocking in NXT history.
Thanks to interference from Fatal Influence stablemates Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx, Jayne shockingly upset Vaquer to become NXT women's champion for the first time.
Many fans were left wondering why such a seemingly rash decision was made, and the most logical answer would be that La Primera is about to get called up.
Grace was not on Tuesday's NXT following her loss at Battleground, which may have also been a sign that her time in NXT is done.
With Evolution on the horizon in July, it makes sense for WWE to want to infuse the main roster women's division with talent, and Vaquer and Grace will do precisely that if they are indeed called up from NXT.
WWE to Reportedly Utilize Talent from Other Companies at Evolution
Evolution figures to be stacked with talent from the WWE women's division, but they reportedly won't be alone.
During an appearance on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News) WrestleVotes was asked whether women's wrestlers from TNA and AAA may be part of the Evolution card.
WrestleVotes responded affirmatively, saying, "Any available talent that is outside a few companies are gonna be asked to work the show if they'd like, so they will stack it as best as they can."
WWE has had a working relationship with TNA for the past several months, and it has seen several TNA wrestlers appear on WWE programming as a result, primarily on the NXT brand.
Working with TNA allowed WWE to introduce Jordynne Grace to its audience, and it eventually led to Grace officially signing with WWE.
During WrestleMania 41 weekend, WWE announced that it had purchased iconic Mexican wrestling promotion AAA, giving it access to even more talent.
On June 7, WWE is putting on an event called Worlds Collide in the Los Angeles area, and it will feature both WWE and AAA talent mixing it up.
AAA women's wrestlers Chik Tormenta and Dalys have already been announced for the show, and they figure to be candidates for Evolution as well.
The inaugural Evolution premium live event was held in 2018, and it was the first and only WWE PLE to feature only women.
Now, WWE is set to run it back seven years later, and there is no doubt the women's wrestling landscape in WWE and in the wrestling business as a whole has changed a great deal since 2018.
WWE has access to a lot more talent now than it did in 2018, and it would make sense for the company to capitalize on that so it can put together the best card possible.
Goldberg Says His Son Will Accompany Him to Ring for Final Match
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is preparing for his retirement match, and while the date and opponent haven't yet been announced, Goldberg revealed a nugget of information on Tuesday.
During an appearance on the Claw Pod (h/t Mukherjee), Goldberg divulged that he will be "proudly led out by my son" for his final match.
Goldberg's son, Gage, is a linebacker at the University of Colorado who saw limited on-field action as a freshman last season.
Over the years, Gage has appeared on WWE programming alongside his father many times, including back in October at Bad Blood when Gunther taunted Goldberg while he was seated in the front row with his family.
Goldberg jumped the barricade and attempted to get his hands on Gunther, which led to the announcement that the 58-year-old veteran would have his retirement match with WWE in 2025.
Although WWE has yet to make a formal announcement regarding when and where Goldberg's retirement match will take place, Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News) reported last week that the July 12 Saturday Night's Main Event is the likely landing spot.
That Saturday Night's Main Event will take place the night before the Evolution premium live event in Atlanta, which is Goldberg's adopted hometown.
Goldberg attended the University of Georgia, spent a few seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and first rose to prominence in pro wrestling in WCW, which was based in Atlanta.
Given that Atlanta is home for Goldberg, having his last match there and doing it with his son in his corner would perhaps be the most fitting ending to his career possible.
Goldberg's opponent remains to be seen, but given their run-in at Bad Blood, Gunther has to be considered the most likely candidate.
