Delmon Young Released by Orioles: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
The Baltimore Orioles announced on Thursday afternoon that they have released outfielder Delmon Young.
The 29-year-old appeared in 52 games this season and was batting .270 with two home runs and 16 RBI. Young is in his 10th season in the major leagues and holds career marks of a .283 batting average with 109 home runs.
With more outfielders than relievers, according to Dan Connolly and Jon Meoli of the Baltimore Sun, Young was designated for assignment on July 1 in order to fit reliever Tyler Wilson on the roster.

Per Connolly and Meoli, Young signed a one-year, $2.25 million deal with Baltimore in January and is "due roughly the last $1.2 million of that this season."
Baltimore was Young's fifth team in 10 seasons. Drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2003, he made his debut in 2006, playing just two seasons before being dealt to the Minnesota Twins. He achieved career highs during his third season with the Twins in 2010 by hitting 21 home runs and knocking in 112 runs.
Young has been unable to replicate those numbers during his stints with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, the Rays once again and the Orioles over the next five seasons.
The Orioles' website lists Travis Snider as the new starting right fielder on their depth chart. In 59 games he has three home runs and 20 RBI. Steve Pearce is listed as Snider's backup. After hitting 21 home runs last season in 102 games, Pearce has just six round-trippers in 55 games this year.
Baltimore makes the move while it is in the midst of a three-game losing streak and has dropped six of its last seven games. It now trails the New York Yankees by 2.5 games for the American League East lead.
