Lex Luger Announced for 2025 WWE Hall of Fame Class; Joins Triple H, Michelle McCool
WWE announced Friday that Lex Luger will be part of the WWE Hall of Fame's Class of 2025.
On Friday, WWE posted a video of WWE champion Cody Rhodes surprising Luger with news of his Hall of Fame induction last month:
WWE head of creative Triple H took to social media to make Luger's Hall of Fame status official as well:
Luger will be part of a HOF class that already includes Triple H and Michelle McCool.
The 66-year-old Luger has encountered numerous health challenges in recent years, and he has been fully confined to a wheelchair since 2021.
However, Luger has been working with WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page for the past year in hopes of regaining his mobility.
Last month, DDP posted a video of Luger standing up out of his wheelchair on his own, which is a feat he replicated in order to hug Rhodes:
Nicknamed "The Total Package," Luger enjoyed his greatest career success in WCW and NWA.
After spending time on the Green Bay Packers' roster and playing professional football in the CFL and USFL, Luger began his pro wrestling career in 1985.
From 1987 to 1992, Luger was part of Jim Crockett Promotions, which later became WCW. He held the World Heavyweight Championship, United States Championship and Tag Team Championships, and was also a member of the Four Horsemen at one point.
Luger left WCW in 1992 and made his WWE debut in 1993, going by the name "The Narcissist" Lex Luger.
His run as a heel was short-lived, though, as Luger turned babyface on July 4, 1993, when he arrived on the USS Intrepid and body slammed WWE champion Yokozuna after several others failed before him.
Luger would beat Yokozuna by count-out at SummerSlam 1993, but the title did not change hands. Luger and Bret Hart were co-winners of the 1994 Royal Rumble, though, earning them both a shot at Yokozuna and the title at WrestleMania 10.
Lex fell short once again, though, as special guest referee Mr. Perfect cheated to help Yokozuna retain. Hart beat Yoko for the title later in the night.
Luger's profile declined significantly over the next year, leading him to leave WWE and return to WCW in 1995.
He was part of the first shocking moment of the Monday Night War between WWE and WCW when he made a surprise appearance on the inaugural episode of Nitro.
Luger once again established himself as a top star in WCW, beating "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in 1997.
All told, Luger was a two-time world champion, five-time U.S. champion, two-time television champion and three-time tag team champion during his illustrious WWE career.
Luger's full-time wrestling career effectively ended when WWE purchased WCW in 2001, although he had a handful of matches in the years that followed, including teaming with Jeff Jarrett against Sting and AJ Styles in TNA in 2003.
In recent years, Luger has worked as an ambassador for WWE, and he has a legends contract with the company.
