Orlando Scandrick, Cowboys Agree on New Contract: Latest Details and Reaction

The Dallas Cowboys and cornerback Orlando Scandrick reached an agreement on a new contract Friday. The fresh deal eliminates concerns about a potential holdout by one of the team's key members of the secondary.

Albert Breer of NFL Network noted the "key to Scandrick's new deal in Dallas—he'll make $4 million this year and $9 million over next two seasons. Was due $4 million in '15/'16."

CBS Dallas' Mike Fisher had Scandrick's thoughts, saying, "I thank the Jones family. I'm grateful ... it's a blessing and I can't put into words how appreciative I am of the Dallas Cowboys organization and the Jones family."

The Cowboys drafted Scandrick in the fifth round of the 2008 draft. He's steadily developed into one of the leaders of the defense over the past seven years.

He's tallied 315 tackles, 9.5 sacks, seven interceptions and four forced fumbles in 102 career games. He had 63 tackles and two picks last season for Dallas.

The new deal comes shortly after he returned to the team after skipping voluntary offseason workouts. Rob Phillips of the team's official site passed along previous comments from head coach Jason Garrett about the situation: "He looks good. You can tell he's been working out. We're going to take care of the football part. The business side will take care of itself."

Now the business side is taken care of, too.

Scandrick gets an infusion of new money in the deal, and the Cowboys ensure they won't have to head into training camp with either a disgruntled defensive stalwart or without him showing up at all.
