Scott Brooks Reportedly Will Sit out 2015-16 NBA Season
After being fired as head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder after the regular season ended, Scott Brooks reportedly isn't in a rush to get back in the game.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Brooks does not plan on taking any interviews for coaching vacancies this offseason with the goal of spending more immediate time with his family:
"Former Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks plans to pass on interview chances with the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans and appears inclined to sit out the 2015-16 season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Brooks, 49, wants to coach again but plans to take the year to look at television opportunities and reconnect with his family living in California, sources said.
"
Brooks was put in a no-win situation this season with the Thunder, losing Kevin Durant for most of the year and Serge Ibaka for the final 18 games, and the team still finished with a 45-37 record and finished one game away from making the postseason.
When the Thunder fired Brooks, general manager Sam Presti said in a statement, per ESPN's Royce Young, that the decision was "an assessment of what we feel is necessary at this point in time in order to continually evolve, progress and sustain."
The 49-year-old Brooks spent seven seasons with the Thunder, posting a 338-207 record that included five consecutive playoff appearances from 2010-14 and one Western Conference championship in 2012.
Brooks is going to have his choice of jobs with that kind of resume whenever he wants to get back on the bench. It just doesn't sound like he is ready to dive back in right away.
