Lance Moore to Lions: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappMay 12, 2015

The Detroit Lions added another veteran presence to their receiving corps Tuesday, signing Lance Moore

Tim Twentyman of the team's official website had the report:

"

The Detroit Lions signed a veteran receiver who is very familiar with offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. The team agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran Lance Moore, who spent his first nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints

Lombardi was an offensive assistant in New Orleans from 2007-09 and then the quarterback coach from 2009-2013. Moore was with the Saints through that entire stretch. He caught 346 passes for 4,281 yards and 38 touchdowns in his nine seasons in New Orleans. It shouldn’t take him long to find his bearings in Detroit, whose offense is similar to the one Moore experienced in New Orleans.

Moore, 31, spent last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, catching 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games. But he asked for his release from the team in February after reportedly being unhappy with his playing time, and his request was granted in March.

Depending on how Moore plays in training camp and during the preseason, he could find playing time much more plentiful in Detroit. While Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate are locked into starting roles out wide—and tight end Eric Ebron will be expected to be a bigger part of the passing game this year—the No. 3 receiver role is hardly settled in Detroit. Corey FullerJeremy RossRyan Broyles and T.J. Jones are all now battling Moore for the role.

If the veteran receiver establishes chemistry with quarterback Matt Stafford and carves out a niche for himself in Detroit's offense, he should certainly be far more productive than he was a year ago.
