John Wall Injury Update: Wizards Star Has Multiple Fractures in Hand, Wrist
After being forced to play Game 2 of their second-round Eastern Conference playoff series against the Atlanta Hawks without point guard John Wall, the Washington Wizards received some unfortunate news regarding his health Thursday.
According to Monumental Network, the 24-year-old All-Star has five non-displaced fractures in his left wrist and hand. Coach Randy Wittman praised Wall for his toughness, per Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post:
There has been no update on his status moving forward, but one can only assume it will be difficult for the former University of Kentucky standout to play with such limitations.
If the Wiz are forced to progress without Wall, it could spell the end of their postseason run. According to ESPN Stats & Info, Washington has been a different team without him on the floor this season:
His teammates feed off his ability to distribute the basketball, as NBA on ESPN alluded to with the following stat:
The Wizards are set to host the Hawks on Saturday for Game 3 of their series. It is currently tied up at 1-1 with Atlanta beating a Wall-less Washington squad in Game 2.
More of the same could be on the horizon if Wall is unavailable going forward, which is hugely disappointing for Wizards fans considering how far their team has come this season.
If Wall can't go, Ramon Sessions will continue to man the starting point guard position, and Will Bynum, who did not play in Game 2, could be asked to fill in as a backup.
