Manu Ginobili Comments on Future with Spurs After Loss vs. Clippers
The San Antonio Spurs might well lose one-third of their legendary Big Three after their Game 7 exit to the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2015 NBA playoffs. According to Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears, Manu Ginobili is undecided about whether he'll return for the 2015-16 season.
Dan McCarney of the San Antonio Express-News provided comments from Ginobili:
According to Spears, Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich isn't in doubt about whether San Antonio's key veterans will be back for at least one more run at a title:
If one member of the Spurs' aging contingent was to retire, you'd put your money on Ginobili. He isn't the oldest player on the team, but he is showing his age more than anybody else.
The 37-year-old is coming off of his 13th season in the league. His average of 10.5 points per game was his lowest mark since his rookie year. According to Basketball-Reference.com, Ginobili's player efficiency rating (16.2), true shooting percentage (.544) and win shares (3.7) were also his lowest outputs in a long time.
Sooner or later, the Spurs will have to replace Ginobili, Popovich, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. Perhaps the Argentine star will be the first to walk off into the sunset.
Whenever that transition happens, it will be the end of an era in San Antonio.
