Shane Ray to Broncos: Trade Details, Twitter Reaction in 2015 NFL Draft

Joseph ZuckerApr 30, 2015

The Denver Broncos are doing everything they can to capitalize on their shrinking window for success. The team moved up from the 28th overall pick to the 23rd in order to select Missouri Tigers defensive end/linebacker Shane Ray.

Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com provided the full details of the deal between the Broncos and Detroit Lions:

Broncos general manager John Elway thanked the outgoing Manny Ramirez and welcomed the incoming Ray:

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson felt that if Denver was so enamored with Ray, then a trade was necessary to ensure that the Broncos would get their man:

Ray made it clear his toe injury won't be an issue, per ESPN's Jeff Legwold and Vic Lombardi of CBS 4 in Denver:

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel offered his best wishes to his former star:

Pass-rushing wasn't exactly an issue for the Broncos in 2014. They finished a respectable ninth in team sacks and owned the fifth-best pass defense in the league, according to Football Outsiders. NFL on ESPN takes pity on the offensive linemen who now have to worry about Denver's front seven:

ESPN's Mark Schlereth still feels that the Broncos need to upgrade the offensive line, though, at some point in the draft:

Ray is considered one of the top pass-rushers in the draft. His stock took a bit of a hit after he was cited for possessing 35 grams or less of marijuana a few days ago.

The former Tiger is a bit of a high-risk, high-reward pick and makes sense for the Broncos, who are doing everything to try to win before Peyton Manning either retires or declines to the point where Denver is no longer competitive.
