IPL 2015 Results: Scores, Points Table and Schedule After April 23 Fixture
Delhi Daredevils cruised to their third win of the 2015 Indian Premier League, beating Mumbai Indians by a 37-run margin and ending a nine-game winless run on home soil.
A spectacular partnership of 156 between Shreyas Iyer and JP Duminy helped Delhi to an imposing total of 190 for four after being put into bat. Both men played superbly after the loss of a very early wicket for the Daredevils.
In response, the Indians began well. But one wicket triggered a top order collapse, and having conceded four wickets at just past the halfway point, the chase was always going to be a tough one for the visitors. Imran Tahir shone with the ball, with a spell of three wickets in four balls in the 17th over.
Here’s how this win for the Daredevils affects the overall standings and a closer examination of how the action played out in Delhi.

Delhi Impress in Victory over Mumbai
3 of 3
Delhi Daredevils (190/5) beat Mumbai Indians (153/9) by 37 runs
Having won the toss and elected to field, things got off to the best possible start for Mumbai. Mitchell McLeneghan had the dangerous Mayank Agarwal caught off the third ball and there definitely seemed to be something in the pitch for the Indians’ bowlers to exploit. But their excitement proved to be short-lived.
That wicket brought JP Duminy to the crease alongside Shreyas Iyer, and together they rebuilt the innings in spectacular fashion. As noted by CricBuzz, their partnership—which was eventually worth 156—is the highest in the competition so far:
"150-partnership between Shreyas Iyer and JP Duminy. This is the highest partnership for any wicket in #IPL8. #CB #IPL #DDvMI

Iyer was the aggressor initially, taking up the bulk of the strike and looking to put pressure on the bowlers. But for a player so young, he showed remarkable composure during his time at the crease, operating with the poise you would typically expect from a seasoned veteran.
His innings included seven fours and five sixes, much to the delight of the Delhi crowd. As noted by Cricket Tracker, up to now, Iyer has been the most prolific man in the tournament when it comes to clearing the boundary:
"Forget the big names, young Sreyas Iyer has the most number of sixes by a batsman (14) in IPL 8 so far http://t.co/J1SxUvVSSx
— Cricket Tracker (@Cricketracker) April 23, 2015"
Eventually he tried one risk too many, though. Lasith Malinga bowled him in the the 17th over for 83 from just 56 balls, but with the Daredevils on 156 for one, a solid platform was set. It was a foundation that Duminy exploited with distinction, as he went about accelerating his own scoring rate.
The South African remained unbeaten and eventually finished up on 78 from 50 deliveries, smashing three fours and six enormous sixes during his time out in the middle. His efforts, along with a late flourish from Angelo Mathews, pushed Delhi to a formidable total of 190 for four.
Initially, Mumbai looked pretty composed in their chase, but in consecutive overs, two excellent pieces of fielding from Delhi helped prise out both openers. First it was Duminy, who sprung to take a diving catch to dismiss Lendl Simmons, before Parthiv Patel was out after a brilliant piece of work from Imran Tahir.
As noted by AltCricket, the latter fielder doesn’t really have a patent for taking tough chances:
"When you heard "Imran Tahir is under it" and saw him scuttling towards the ball, admit it, you thought he was getting nowhere near that!
— Alt Cricket (@AltCricket) April 23, 2015"
From that point onward, the visitors were never comfortable, as Duminy brought on his classy array of spin-bowling options to strangle the run rate. A frustrated Unmukt Chand was stumped after good work from Amit Mishra, and at 68 for three, the Indians were really struggling.
Kieron Pollard is a man who always gives a side a chance, though. The West Indies star flexed his muscles by smashing Tahir over the rope, but the very next over he—and seemingly Mumbai’s chances—had perished, after skying a devilishly disguised ball from Mishra.
Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu were able to establish some sort of foothold in the match for the Indians with a decent partnership of 49. But with the required rate creeping up over-by-over, they didn't find the boundary with the requisite regularity to get over the line.
Sharma eventually fell for 30 trying to up the ante and was swiftly followed by Hardik Pandy, Rayudu and McLeneghan. It was a spell that saw the Indians lose four wickets in the space of five balls, with the latter trio falling to the excellent Tahir. Eventually, they came up 37 runs short in their pursuit on 153 for nine.
As noted by HoldingWilleyCricket, it was a stunning over from the spinner to wrap up the match for his team:
"W 4 W W 0 0 Brilliant over by TAHIR! #DDvMI #IPL
— HoldingWilleyCricket (@holdingwilley) April 23, 2015"
For Delhi, securing a long-awaited win on their home ground was vital. They’ve been very impressive in the early stages of this competition and there seems to be a festering belief in the squad that they can go far is tournament.
With individuals like Duminy, Iyer and Tahir performing like this, you’d certainly be foolish to write them off.
